Cancelling Mobile Contract After Contract Length

Hi all,

Just rang to tell Vodafone I would not be staying as my contract is up in 4 weeks and I can't get a decent upgrade price for an iphone.

They have said.I must write to them?

Surely if the 18 months is up, the contract has ended and I shouldn't have to write to them?

Anyone able to shed some light onto this?

Thanks

Did you try and ask them to make you a PAYG customer when your contract is up?

what does your contract say???

if it says you have to give 4 weeks notice in writing you have to do just that

just get a pac code from them and port to another sim on any network (or any new deal you are taking up)

Its a simple letter for the legal side of things. Its not hard just send in a letter stating that you wish to terminate your agreement and give them your 30 days notice as of the date of the letter or when it is 30 days before the last day of your agreement . Add your name, address plus number to the letter and sign it. 1st class stamp. Done

If you order a pac code, when you transfer your number to the other provider the contract will stop on the transfer date.

Just send them an email.

As above the count this as "submitting in writing" I cancelled my last contract this way.

Thanks everyone.

I just find it strange that you have to terminate in writing. Surely the contract terminates as it has expired

No doesn't work like that. Look at it from the other side, what if you forgot to say you wanted to extend it and they canceled your contract and allocated your number to somebody else! After your fixed period it in effect becomes a 1 month rolling contract.

You will need to see what it says in your contract about giving them notice as otherwise the contract will continue but with no minimum period but you would still need to give the required days notice.

I have recently cancelled my contract with Vodafone. I simply sent them an email and they responded very quickly

The contract term is the minimum term, not the max. At the end of the minimum it changes into a 30 day rolling contract and with all contracts you have to give notice to quit.

Asking for your pac would be the quickest, but you have to use it or your contract just carries on.
