Can't decide between iphone 7 or Samsung galaxy S7

Hi, it's my first post for advice....

know this is a difficult and not so difficult decision for some but I really can't decide between the two phones. I've had several iphones and and feeling like the change might be good? However I don't want to sign up for a 2 year contract and then miss my iPhone! Know I can look at sim only but like a contract at the mo. Also wondering how difficult it would be to transfer all iphone/ iCloud data over?

Also feel that the Samsung might enable me to do more with my smart tv (remote, use showbox?)

Any advice would be much appreciated

Well you can definitely do more on Android talking about customization. Be it Samsung or LG, etc. I would suggest to wait for Galaxy S8 for a couple of months. I know it will be pricier at first, but it will be far more superior than S7 or iphone 7.

Thanks versas, you just read my mind! Just Googled estimated launch date for the S8

Get iPhone 7. It's what you're used to and probably won't blow up as a bonus. Customisation is fun until you're over the age of 20.

Also being on contract doesn't mean you're stuck with a phone for that period. You own the device so you can sell it etv

    Thanks misa426

moved from iPhone couple of years ago definitely was the right move so much more you can do with the Samsung. go with the s7 or wait for the s8 you'll be years ahead even if you get the s7. Fun at any age (almost).

If you can't wait for the s8 go get the pixel, iPhone shouldn't be an option in my opinion.

    Agreed ^^^

Depends what you really need the phone for. I enjoyed all the custom themes and gimmicky features the Samsung did for 5 year but switched the iPhone 6S last year and really enjoying the simplistic approach. Everything feels a lot smoother and hasn't slowed down at all in 15 months.

if you are used to an iPhone by an

I phone 7 doesn't use the regular earphone piece
You will need to keep buying the expensive one from Apple

i've had both an S7 Edge and an iPhone 7+

iPhone use a simpler interface to me, and - Apple customer service is far, far superior to Samsungs.
If anything goes wrong with it, you'll be waiting months for a replacement from Samsung. Apple get a replacement to you within a couple of days.

Switched from the S7 edge to an iPhone 7+ and i don't regret it one bit.

I just moved from an iPhone to the Google pixel (android). love it. so much easier to use. very easy to move everything across APART from all my old WhatsApp messages, I had to lose all of them (they are still sitting on the icloud if anyone knows how to back up from Apple to android?...)
very glad of the move and definitely worth you considering the pixel phone too

Also Apple tend to support phones longer than Samsung.
Apple still release updates for the iPhone 5 - a phone that is now 4.5 years old.

Samsungs phone of that Era was the S3 - and the last supported OS was KitKat (4.4).
The current one is Nougat v7.1 (3 generations newer)

Android is the way forward you can get mobdro to watch 1000s of free sports and film channels SKY BT etc and you are not tied to iTunes, Samsung now launched in usa will be taking over apple sales shortly

    Pixel all the way

I have the s7 and my missus has the iPhone 7, mine seems faster, both cameras are good, I'd say the s7 camera is better, don't go for the s7 edge as you can't get a good screen protector, both have, customer service wise, Apple has this by miles, Samsung service is appalling! And that's a fact, you have to take your phone to an authorised repair centre not a Samsung store but a third party one. There only response for help is to do a soft reset then a hard reset from my experience.

Google the host of issues surrounding IOS 10 . Apple continue to release fix updates and create further issues . I have had 2 iPhones 5 & 6s and both had glitches , wifi drop , battery draining issues , . The 5 was replaced after 10 months cos the power button failed . The replacement lost all service after putting on airplane mode . 2 Apple shops said the aerial was bust and wanted £200 to replace handset ( despite it being 6 months old , but not covered by apples warranty cos it was contract on ee) . The fault was a software issue that took days of updating/crashing/ to put right not a broken aerial. The 7 has a host of glitches , bugs , the camera lens scratches easily , has the same issue as the 6s lose signal you have to reboot the phone .. Shocking for £700+ phones .

i had iphones for many many years. so got the s7 edge recently. one of the best choice I've ever made. can't be happier. literally it took 20 mins to transfer all my photos contacts songs and everything. s7 comes with a little gadget to transfer all your data. nothing geeky at all. hope this helps.

Those S8 bezels tho fam (_;)

are you heavily invested in the apple infrastructure? do you have a Mac, iPad, etc?

it really depends on what you want from a phone? do you depend on imessage and face time? if not then move, but there are other phones other than a Samsung.

can you put up with the Samsung skin (used to be called touchwiz)? I couldn't. the oneplus 3t is a great phone and at £390 it's great value too.

iPhone all the way. I love my 6s plus. Battery life good perfect size so you can type clearly

    iPhone , of course.

The don't have a mac but do have an ipad however don't really use it anymore! Think I might make the move. Will check out the one plus that you have a top, thanks for your advice

I've always been an "Android guy" and currently have an S7 Edge as a personal phone, and an iPhone 6+ as a work phone. The iPhone has a more friendly user interface (read: basic) but Android allows you a lot more customisation options to tailor the OS exactly how you want it.

Another big reason for me preferring the S7 over the iPhone are the touch buttons on the front of the phone. A 'back' button might seem like a small thing but it makes such a big difference being able to tap a button to go back as opposed to having to use the on-screen buttons on the iPhone.

Both my Mum and girlfriend have switched from an iPhone to an S7 Edge within the last 3 months and they said they far prefer the Samsung!

Thanks Paul that's really helpful.. Just wondering how does your Mum and Gf find the size of the S7 Edge?

id wait for the s8. If you are used to iphones you will have a bit of a learning curve with android. the main difference between the devices are

    iphone 7
    -better performance
-better quality apps (this is less true than it was but cannot be denied)
    -better resale value

    s7
    - better screen
    - gear vr (its actually really quite amazing - no other mobile vr comes close)
    - expandable storage (for music / photots)
    - fast charging and wireless charging

They are both excellent phones with great cameras. There are other differences and I for one use too many things on android that ios can't do but for most the things I've listed are the main benefits of each over the other.

If you can wait the s8 is likely to be great and worth waiting a few months

I forgot to mention the battery life on s7. I'm a heavy browsing guy. so I had to charge my iPhone 6 at least twice a day. but s7 on the other hand I have 45% left at the end of the day. so I'd never go back to iphone. I spent only £420 for the phone and £16 for 128gb memory card. you'd never get iphone 7 for that price. don't listen to the people who stuck with iphones. they don't know what they are missing out. trust me, I used to be one of them.

Not true phone comes with decent headphones and also an adaptor if you hve your own you want to use

I went from an iPhone 6, having had iPhones since the 3GS, to a Samsung S6 Edge. I lasted 6 months before swapping back to the 6S. I couldn't get on with Android, the phone was nice enough. It looked pretty, the camera was probably better than the one on the 6S and the screen was amazing, but the Android experience ruined it. I was probably having to turn the phone on and off every other day to reset it.

The whole customisation thing passes me by too, I don't want to root my phone or make it look wonderfully individual. I want to make calls, send messages and use it for internet stuff - I was quite happy with Apple deciding how my phone looked and worked.

I'm slightly biased in that everything else in our house is Apple, so the whole iCloud ecosystem was in place, and it meant trying to get Google to talk to Apple, which was more effort than it was worth, but having tried it and gone back I can safely say I won't be going back again

the S7 is quite a bit bigger than the iPhone 6 that they both came from. At first it seemed too big but then once you get used to it you'd never go back to a smaller screen!

    erm

i use both, apple as work phone, samsung as personal. prefer samsung all day long, to many limitations with apple. plus a poster said u can update apple continuously, wrong it does stop at certain points, but if ur apple phone is workin fine then do not keep updating it to the latest ios because ur hardware on the phone is not designed to run the later opp systems. it will slow down .apple themselves told me this, updates are for latest technology or for fixes in most cases.

Only way I managed to do it from Android to iphone was via a software called Backup Trans on a laptop/desktop.

It's a premium app unless you find a torrent for it (not that I'd promote doing anything illegal (_;))

    Samsung Galaxy S7/S8 for:

    A great camera
    Excellent customisation
    Outstanding build quality
    Wireless charging
    VR
    Water resistance
    A better screen
Better battery life and battery life management modes
Access to third party apps like ShowBox

    iPhone 7 for:

    A great camera
A slightly smoother, more fluid user experience
Faster updates and better customer support
    Slightly higher quality apps
    Outstanding build quality
    Water resistance
    Higher residual value

The phone I use personally is a Huawei Honor 8. I've owned Samsungs, iPhones, ZTEs, LGs and Sony phones.

While I liked my old iPhone 6, I find Android to offer far better value for money, which is why I use one as my daily driver.

iphones are boring and you can't customise them or put anything you want on them unless they are approved

    Why not a Pixel?
Ok, it has a stupid name but at least it's better than the Samsung, and you'll get the latest Android updates before Samsung.

You've had one iphone, You've had them all, You might as well have a pipe and slippers.

Pixel or S7 best mobiles on the market atm.

ah, apologies, my mistake, misunderstood.. you can email your chats from whattsup from your phone, not sure on cloud.
