The problem is not being helped by all our short journeys. Starting the car requires a fair bit of juice from the battery, which is then 'topped back up' by the alternator. If the journey is too short then the battery doesn't get topped up & will eventually lose all its charge.

The battery could well be faulty. Halfords offer a free battery test service and it only takes seconds. And if it is, take it back to kwik fit as its under guarantee

Thanks for replys was going to take it back but didnt know if same thing would happen again, just wondered if it was possible to buy high performance batteries to compensate all the short journeys, also my central locking isnt working either not sure if its the battery thats causing that too

It could be an electrical problem.

    Have a look at this.

Kwik fit do too, so would save a journey by just going to Kwik fit

If your central locking is faulty do you not think that could be causing a drain on your battery...get a cheap voltmeter and put it across the battery while the car is just sat there and see if it's being drained, keeping in mind if you've got an alarm that will drain it too. Go to the scrap yard get a battery for £5-£10 get one of the big ones that look fairly new (1-2yrs) with high amp's that will help you out, if you can get a Bosch Silver!

i cant speak for kwik fit, but halfords sell Calcium Batteries that are more suited to short journeys etc,

i have heard of kwik fits, and other places charging for new alternators rather than replace a faulty battery.
Halfords will test a battery in front of you and show you the display on the test machine so you can see for yourself.
But you are right, an honest kwik fit will provide the same service

Agree with above comments but you also need to make sure that there us no drain on your battery when the car is parked up with everything switched off.

Can you get someone to check this out?
    How old is the car?
Could there be a alternator fault?
Have you had any modifications fitted that may draw current from the battery when the car is switched off?

They are a good battery, I got one in costco early last year for £30 went travelling for 6 months and the car started 1st time when i got back! (I had disconnected it though) I fit mine myself, not a mechanic but was very easy

my car is an 02 plate i have not had any modifications on it. when i first had the battery the remote central locking worked as the months went by the remote locking only worked sometimes but it does not work at all now the light on the key still works so therefore the batteries in the key are ok.

Test the alternators charging the battery firsly proir to going to Kwikfit or they will try to sell you something you do not need. It could well be a dead cell within the battery.

Short journeys shouldn't make that much of a difference tbh. I used to do 4 miles a trip twice a day (ok night) and never had battery problems. As others have said, get a multimeter and check the battery, it should should say 12v. Start the engine and test again, should say about 14.5v, if it still says 12v then there's either a break in the wiring from the starter/alternator or the alternators goosed (get another reading from the alternator output to be sure). If that's ok, remove the battery and check the acid levels. This is most likely what's wrong, if one cell is a bit dry the battery just won't hold any charge so top it up with distilled water to a few mm above the plates and recharge. If it's completely dry, chances are the plates have buckled and the battery's knackered.

Actually, if the MM test is ok and the battery is a bit dry, get it replaced under warranty

As somebody said earlier, check the tension on your alternator belt:thumbsup:
