Register? i thought you just turned up lol

register? most let you pay on the morning afaik, must better cos if it rains you dont lose out lmao

I don't know your area but I think most of them you just turn upto on the morning.

Also interested in doing a car boot sale so good luck with yours and let us know how it goes

When you have decided which one to go to, get there early and take someone with you to help, you get mobbed by the buyers as soon as you turn your engine off.
Watch out for 'teams' of theives one distracts you asking about an item which is still in your boot and another has it away with stuff off your stall.

    Errrrrrr hmmm OK!!!

If you just take care you will have a great time, sell most of your stuff and have a healthier bank balance.

What about a float for change... £50 split into shrapnel should be enough?

Some smaller car boots like those organised by schools or churches ask you to 'book' a pitch but the big ones just give you a pitch on a first come first parked service.

Sounds like a good idea to me... Not working at the mo so every penny counts

I've been meaning to do one for ages! Is it a good place to shift DVD's & CD's? - must have about 200 in all that could use a good home and blockies etc offer peanuts for them now! Not to mention various books, gadgets etc (nothing pricey). Ta

I usually just take five pound coins and some silver, most buyers have pockets full of change, do however take loads of carrier bags, the buyers never have those with them.

Well most of my stuff is all new unwanted items... or ex sample stock I have from trend research that I use to when I was working. It's hard to say a fair price as everything will be cheaper than if you bought it elsewhere, however Im not gonna sell things for next to nothing.. especially as most items are still packaged. Just all my unwanted **** I've bought. I'm not a trader just a hoarder!!

I didnt think about carrier bags . I'll raid tesco before hand. Better stock up before shops start charging! :w00t:

Don't except first offers early in the morning. Make sure you have everything priced or at least a price in mind and stick to it first thing.
It's always tempting to accept the first offers as you just want rid of the stuff but a lot of the time you'll get more later on. Dealers always come round first and they want a price they can resell at.

Already mentioned above but there are many teams of thieves and individual ones as well. Watch out for Granny with her wheel along trolley !!

Take food and drink with you otherwise you end up spending loads on site.

Take a roll of toilet paper !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Good luck.

Serious stuff Car Boot Sales, lol

Run of the mill dvd's sell at around 2 to 3 quid a disc, check your collection first by comparing on say Amazon, you may be surprised what some dvd's sell fo online, Disney etc.

Cd's are again worth checking out on line before you sell at the boot sale.

Average prices for those are 50p to 2 quid.

Good advice there are two of them at a boot sale I go to, and no one challenges them.!

People at car boot sales will really try it on - and offer you next to nothing - they are soooo cheeky.

I see you have lots of good advice already

Definately don't sell early on unless it's a reasonable offer.

Make signs up before you go that you can stick onto the car - IE - NEW CLOTHES! People then have an inkling of what to expect before they hit your stall.

Ok lovelies thanks for your advice, please keep posting, I'm just off to make dinner and will check back later!

Dont know about all car boots but the one i go to doesnt allow the selling of new items,Best check,

The last one I did put me well off, at the end of the day I was giving away stuff like N64's and PSOnes for £1 and people still tried to haggle the price down, I even gave away a Playstation 2 pad for free and the guy (about 15) said "what else will you give me free?"

Most boot sales are listed in the local papers. Just make sure you turn up early to get your pitch and if it's a hot day (unlikely) take an umbrella for shade!! Garden chairs are also a good idea as it's a long day.

Good point lots of boot sales do not allow new items, something to do with local byelaws and the council.

School or church ones often do not allow electrical goods, but the main car boots do.

All the car boot sales I have been to my way have sold new items.

I've carbooted in the ENfield, Upshire, Cuffley area! Which is all NOrth/ish London - but I don't think it is quite your neck of the woods

Miss Money Penny, I am doing my first car boot at Battersea tomorrow, at a school. Hopefully all should go off without a hitch. I had to pay £25 to secure my pitch (because I am taking my car although you can get cheaper ones without a car). Buyers have to pay entry so I think that eliminates a lot of potential thieves. I went last week to scope it out beforehand and it looks good - just in the process of sorting my bits right now! Weather looks like it will be good too so fingers crossed. I will report back if anyone's interested!
