Car Cleaning What do you use?

Good Day all, i've purchased a brand new vauxhall corsa sxi in black today, and when it comes i will be obviously taking great care with it, no car washes or 99p shampoo for me. This thread is a call out to car enthusiasts who look after their cars with good quality car cleaning products, please tell me what you use or what others use and point me in the right direction, i've been reading about super snow foam? has anyone had any experience with this, i also want an ultra shiny wax and cloths and sponges that do not scratch, and even a cheap pressure washer that does the job

Thanks in advance

When i first got my new car i used turtle wax products. That all went to pot of course and now it's only clean when i find the time!

Hi,

My Honda Civic Type R gets special treatment also.

I use autoglym products ie, shampoo, wax, internal cleaners, alloy wheel spray etc etc.....but can work out expensive.

But, have also used turtle wax products and found them very good indeed and are nearly always on offer at halfords.

Normally just buy sponges from the pound shop because i use that many of them, especially on the alloys and therfore get filthy and thrown away.

A good leather is a must !

Good luck with you new motor

use AUTOGLYM
on offer in ]TESCO - half price

One thing not to use is washing up liquid as overtime that can start to bleach the paint, for my car (cheap banger) I use supermarket brand car shampoo and Turtle wax colour matching wax.

Hi,
I would make a visit to ]http//ww….uk fantastic site with loads of info. It can become addictive and you can end up spending silly money on products etc.

For a beginner meguiars is pretty well respected and also included in the 3 for 2 offer Halfords have on at the moment.

Super snow foam is generally used as a pre-wash via a foam lance attached to a pressure washer. The idea is that the majority of grit and dirt is washed away before you contact with a wash mitt to reduce the risk of scratching and damaging the paintwork.

Could give loads of info but you are probably best to just visit the site!

just wash the car from the bottom up not from the top down for best results

surely the dirt from the roof will trail down the car?????

Dont wash from bottom up. Naturally the bottom of the car is covered in the most dirt and therefore will dirty the water in the bucket adding grit etc to your wash, if you are only using one bucket.

I would suggest you wash from top down, single panel at a time, two buckets - one with soapy water in one with just water. after each panel rinse in the clean water then dip back into the soapy.

This is very important taking into consideration the car is black.

try hitting it with a hammer

for best results brillo is hard to beat

NOooooooo!!!!! That's a guaranteed way to spread the dirt and scratches all the way up the bodywork.

Oh. Ask your dealer to Supagard it. www.supagard.com

On my Austin Allegro I use Zymol Royale Glaze
vertar.com/zym…ze/

I always use Autoglym on my merc ... you get what you pay for and many sites have discounts on the autogylm range.

See tesco direct who have 1/2 price at the moment £10 for 3x325ml shampoo, car polish and glass polish.

Give it a go

I knew that would stir some questions about washing the car from the bottom up
black and red cars in particular are prone to streaking after washing
the water runs down from the top of the car effectivly washing the car in aseries of little rivers
the water has washed and been left to soften more in these places than the rest of the car, so by washing from the base up you elliminate this problem (motor manufacturers report)

same with windows in your house

:thumbsup: sponges are a no no, buy a lambswool wash mitt. too for washing with.

i use 3 stage meguiars kit on mine.it takes a while but looks great when done and last for ages whilst protecting the paint work.

nice car too!:-D

Only one car shampoo for me and that's Meguairs Gold Class Shampoo plus Conditioner! This stuff is used by those that would take their cars to shows etc...it gives a real deep shine and looks like you've polished the car as well once it's dried. Halfords have been stocking this for a few years now as it was previously in specialist places.

Enjoy!

You might like to have a look at AutoExpress online.

The 20th March edition has a product test on car polishes ( bottom of the page if online).

I use the illegal immigrants down the road, all credit to them they do a good job for a £5.
