The details are in the post below.

dont buy it as it belongs to the finance company until its been paid for

avoid it, if you buy it, you will also inherit the finance and be responsible for paying for it

yes, what scooby said

Stay clear. Especially if the seller didn't tell you themselves - what else are they hiding?
If you buy the car not only will you pay the asking price, you will also be liable for the outstanding money to b paid to The Bank of Scotland. If that doesn't get paid they can take the car away from you.
Stay well clear.

Yes, I realise that. I think I am going to try talking to the sellers and possible the RBS to see what can be done. Perhaps they will be wanting to pay the finance of with the cash from the sale, so maybe we can arrange something between the 3 of us.

Thanks for your words of warning.

Don't forget if you do an RAC car check to go through topcashback.co.uk. It's just like quidco and unlinke quidco they offer £4.95 cashback on a £5 RAC car check, so only costs you 5p!

I wouldn't trust the seller. If they did not tell you about the outstanding finance, don't necessarily trust them if they say they will pay off the finance with the cash you pay them, they might just pocket it and you would be in a bad position.

Pretty sure this has ended now. Sure it was in the thread over on MSE I was reading earlier. Still check it out though you never know!

What you can do as well is if you agree to buy the car get them to phone RBS while you're there and you could settle the finance with them over the phone using your debit card. Then pay seller any remaining cash, that's what we did in the past.

That seems like a good idea. I'll suggest it to the seller.
