Walk

take a look at hertz (or enterprise)your best bet is pickup at an airport location rather than a city, they will more than likely be open today
Are you near an airport? They should be open, Do a quick search before booking using sites like moneysupermarket .

Never used them before there are none by me anywhere, make sure you get whatever name they give to the excess waiver (hertz is supercover or something). Go for it if it’s your only option!!

30th jan - 1st jan? - 11months?
Enterprise should be open most open on Saturday 9am - Midday
Sixt, Avis, national car. If an airport is the only place you can get one then suggest you get an Uber/train or something to an airport to pick one up. Remember a lot of the places will be closed or on short hours so it may be better to pick it up today and take the hit on the per day cost.

Clearly a typo given that he says he can only get the car fixed Tuesday
I’ve always found using a comparison site much cheaper than going directly to the agent .... I live near an airport which helps thou .
I've used Thrifty before - in a lot of towns.

Do you have to have a car to transport the family or would a van do if just yourself and one passenger? Van would be a lot cheaper as I guess not much demand over the next couple of days.

Have you tried independent/local Companies in your neighbourhood?

Also, if all else fails, see if any local car showrooms are offering any promotions on vehicles for extended test drives to cover your usage period.
