Car insurance and wallpaper - help please

I'm saving a few kilobytes for HUKD and making single thread for two things.

First, need car insurance for 10 days for a visiting relative. While it is googleable, any personal recommendations and tips to get a cheap one would be great.

Need to wallpaper a standard size room, what would be a reasonable cost in labour. Have never done that before. Thanks in advance and rep too.:)

Is the car insured in someone elses name? Im assuming so but if not you have 14days cancellation available on insurance so if you were to order the day before you left and change your mind when you got home you would prob get it for free :-)

Nice idea :w00t: but the car is already insured in my name.

re insurance. what car will the relative be driving. as if it is a rental car it should include the insurance. if it is your car you could add them to your policy for the 10 days prob would cost much more than abt £25.

Its my car. Is it that cheap? :w00t: Obviously my husband doesn't know anything then, he was saying he got a quote for £45 per day or £250 for 10 days :?

Caution: Dumb question follows..... Is there a limit in number of people to be insured to for a car?

just seen your post abve. if the car is registered to you then you are the only one that can have an insurance policy on it (you can t have more than 1 policy on one car). what you need to do is ring up your insurance co and ask to add a temp driver this is really easy & shouldnt cost too much then they will just add the extra person for usually up to 28 days at a small fee of abt £20-£25..

nope you can have as many people as you like usually or you can change your policy to something called "open driver" which means anyone over the age of 25 can drive your car but this will make your premiums quite a bit dearer as the insurance co wont know who or how many people will be driving so it makes the risk greater.

Tempcover.com will cover the visitor on your car. I've used it to drive my dads before on holiday and the like. Quidco too.

I'll get hubby to ring about adding temp driver to my insurance, thanks

i did this the other year - it was £12 per person for a week on my policy and i could add 4 during the year - that was with Tower (about 4 years ago). It worked out cheaper after that to do any driver over 25 on my policy - as long as they have no convictions etc it was only about £40 more - so cheaper in the long run as my family regularly visit and use my car (wher ei live they have to travel by plane or boat so its cheaper to leave the car at home for them !)

Keep it coming guys and don't forget there is wall paper too!

    Brb school run.

I'm a decorator , have been for 38 years , part time now but still get lots of work . I charge a mere £12 per roll and thats cheap . I used to charge £8 a roll over 20 years ago . I sometimes charge for preparation , maybe £15 to £20 . Walls to be sanded , holes filled and glue sized .
Dont ever let anyone , I've seen many a pro do this too , just paper over a stripped wall . The nibs [bits of old glue and paper ] are left and show through the new paper .Preparation is the key to a good finish .

Wow, you must do a great job then. Any chance you live anywhere in North West? :-D Roughly for a 13ft x 12 ft room, will it take about 10 rolls? Just trying to work out how much it will cost.

    Thanks btw

I'm in the North East , not far , I'll pop across tonight to start :-D

There is a bit of a guide to work out the rolls used , but remember , it depends on pattern match which can be anything from half an inch or less up to about 24" . English wallpaper is 33ft [11yds] in length and just under 21" in width .So, for a room 8' in height , adding the total room circumference together [13' x 2 + 12' x 2 =50' ] would be 7 to 8 rolls .More if there is a pattern match .
You can work it out yourself with a tape measure ,start in one corner and mark the wall every 21" , count the lengths . You normally get 4 lengths to a roll of non matching paper or 3 lengths with a big pattern match if your ceiling height is about 8'. If walls are in a poor condition you should cross line the walls , this hides lots of imperfections and if done right looks like a newly plastered room when finished .You then paper in the normal way .
    hope this helps .
