Car insurance for 18 year old just passing test?

Right well i've got my test coming up in april and want a car asap as my motorbike hasen't got much life left in it. Basically i'm looking at cheap cars which will be cheap to insure. I've been doing some quotes checking what the cost will be assuming i'd just passed for different cars. The cheapest quote i can get is £2500 for a 1996 corsa which is ridiculously expensive for me. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of this at 18 and how much they paid for what car and which insurer? I don't have parents to put on the insurance btw, its just me on it.

That's roughly what your going to pay being a younger driver... My little brother is having the same problem... Cheapest quote at the moment is £3900 on a 2002 Corsa 1.2?!

your only 18, wow i nearly chocked on me coffee there, you always come across like you have lived a thousand years or more

Try running some quotes on price comparison websites adding a named (and older) driver & pass plus (to see whether it's worth doing a pass plus course)

Well I have 2 years NCB for my motorbike but i don't think many , if any, will transfer it over to a car.

I always hear of some getting insurance of around £1200 but then again, guess they stack their parents on it.

Thats incredible! What car? Was it just her name on the insurance?

My daughter payed £1300 on a1.2 Corsa at 17 through Churchill. Unfortunatly boys do seem to have to pay more but over £2000 is pushing it!

And they never wear out the indicators :whistling:

    It's expensive, I got a quote a few days ago for a 1997 Saxo 1.1 TPF&T & the cheapest I found was around £1600 & I thought that was expensive :w00t:

Well thats what the insurers say. I'm Male btw.

When I was looking for a car that was cheap to insure a few years ago, I found that generally speaking the cheaper to insure, the more it costs to buy. Either way, having a car when having just passed your test is very expensive. Some people I know got it cheaper by going fully comp on their own car rather than 3PFF on their parents.

I still can't find anything under £2000 for anything, let along touch see the early 2000's lol

I recently passed my test (20 years old, took ages to do the test because I had an accident) and I paid £1500 for insurance in my name on a 1.4l 2001 5 door focus, I went with aviva.co.uk because adding my dad as a named driver knocked the price down by £800.

If you do your pass plus that might bring the premium down a fair bit; also I found it quite a useful thing to do as well.

my 17 yr old niece paid £1100 for a fiat punto

I did pass plus and although it wasn't a bad course it has never saved me a penny on my insurance.

Was that with just her on the insurance, no parents? I can't see these prices being at all possible without adding someone else onto the insurance
