Hi i have just sold my corsa 1.2 and was paying £51a month on it and am looking at a escort 1.4 or a vectra 1.6

to go to a escort my insurance want another £20 a month which seems alot to me,they said theres a admin charge and plus a charge of £75 to chance the car which seems alot as its always been free with motor bikes,im tempted to just leave but they want a £50 fee to leave.the company im with in express insurance and they have put me with southern rock.

just wondering if anyone knows any good insurnace places,i have 3 points on my licence(full) the code is LC20

thanks

Have a look at a comparison site such as www.gocompare.com, they will give you a wide range of companies and prices.

3 points will bump it up though.

Sloth/Mod

Best to use something like www.confuse.com

Although a LC20 will hammer you hard.

Going from 1.2 to a 1.4 will push up your insurance loads you need to check the insurance category of the car, this will give you a better idea of the costs. £20 seems reasonable, £75 for admin fee is high but it depends on how much higher the premium will be. Having 3 points definitely does not help. Be aware that tax on a 1.6 is higher than a 1.4 too.

Go on your insurances website type in a diff name but fill in all the rest correct with your new car and if its cheaper, phone them and tellthem thats what i did and got it reduced.

I would cancel your present policy and get a new one for the car that you're about to buy.

Then follow this article
moneysavingexpert.com/ins…nce

remember to use Quidco or other cashback sites to get a few quid more off

Doesn't work if you've got a modified car, only got after market alloys and OEM fog lights ;-)

Very true, the cheapest I found for Modified cars was eModified insurance.

We get ripped off in sooooooooooo many ways for having nice looking, quick cars!

Unless your car is older than 7.5 years, car tax on a 1.6 may not necessarily cost a lot more than a 1.4. My 2005 1.4 Mini One D costs £120 a year in tax car but the 2007 1.6 Mini Cooper Diesel costs just £35 a year. It's all down to CO2 emissions.

However as lumoruk indicated, if the car is more than 7.5 years old, it might well be worth picking something which is under 1549cc as it'll save you £65 a year.

Regarding the £75 admin fee, that seems very extortionate. I was going to be charged £26 with Tesco Car Insurance for changing the car with them but managed to get that waived after speaking nicely to a supervisor. Maybe you could give that a try.
