best option to get daily insurance service , i dont think you can get more than 2 weeks free cancellation

The cooling off period starts 14 days from when you receive the policy documents, so if you buy online and don't want cover to start until 2 days time the 14 day starts as soon as you click buy because the documents are available straight away. Most insurers now have a set up fee which care vary from £20 up over after 14 days the fees can be anywhere from £50 up over. if you pay by instalments expect to have a balance to pay even after a few weeks because of the fees. Also if you select any optional extras which now includes protected no claims bonus those products are none refundable after the first 14 days. Double check the terms and conditions about fees. You might be better looking for temporary insurance policies instead of annual policies if you intend to cancel after a few weeks it'd be cheaper for you. Hope this helps!

Pay as you go or ask your mate to inquire to add you on for the time you want it.

Or get added as a named driver or temporary driver on your mates policy, just expect a admin fee and time on cover charges if they allow you as a named driver.

Presumably 3 weeks can be achieved via minimum two sequential policies each cancelled prior to day 14. Is the insurer obliged to report back-dated cancellation to MID? That may effectively be deemed as no insurance for the duration of the subsequently cancelled policy and potentially leave the (non)policyholder liable to prosecution. Why doesn't everyone repetitively cancel / replace?

esure 30 days but £25 admin charge

make sure the insurance company know your not the owner or registered owner. many won't insure you.

Be aware that all of the insurance companies share information, so trying to scam one will get you in deep with all of them, and you will see future applications either refused, or a huge premium added.

Because insurers charge a setup fee of up to £50 which is non-refundable

Set-up fees usually apply after 14days, not before. For example, AA refunds all fees inc its arrangement fee for cancellations during 14day cooling off period. The only charge via AA would be the fee from insurer for time on cover subject to minimum £15 (so states policy document dated July 2016).

Will you current insurance allow you to insure another car temporarily? always worth asking. My hubby is with Direct Line, his van broke and needed to borrow my car (whcih was sorned ready for sale, so didnt have a policy on it). They were happy to do it on a weekly basis at £7 per week, he ended up renewing it for about 4 weeks until his van was fixed.
