Car Insurance Prices

Found 2nd Nov 2010
Got my car insurance renewal docs and the premium has increased by 42% from last year!!! (was £217, now £308) Not had any claims on the policy.
Been ringing round a few others and it would appear that £308 is a good price, everywhere is quoting between £350 to £500!!
What's going on? I don't think I've ever paid more than around £250 for my car insurance?
Anyone else noticed a massive increase in premiums?

use these, also open up tcb or quidco to see which is offering best deal. but remeber to clear cookies or use another browser before buying via your chosen cashabck site, i also put another email address in when using compare the market

I know, mine is usually £320 ish, most places are quoting £500 upwards, AA over £700, Got 9 yrs no claims too.
Did a quote with Tescos online and managed to get it for £300, so paid it off in full just incase the price changed again!
I have noticed that they are asking how many children you have in your car which they have never done before! I dont see why parents should be punished when its usually boy racers, OAPs and young girls doing make up in her rear view mirror causing crashes!

I know for 1 I drove like an idiot before having kids! Didnt respect the road back then

Both my premiums from last year went up by £80 each . Negotiated a deal on the phone with RIAS for one and got a decent quote with gocompare for the other . Shop around the comparison sites on the net for better deals . They all seem to be ripping us off .

No-one on Quidco is offering a large amount for car insurance. The days when you could get £125 cash back are gone! And I'm being made to pay for it now with quotes that are over £200 more expensive than I've ever paid before!

Thanks beth, I'll try tesco. Yes, ricko, I agree they are all ripping us off. Makes my blood boil.

I Got a good deal from Avviva, went through Quidco as well as a bonus

It does seem too good to be true doesnt it!! So much so that I made hubby come over and check I hadnt done anything wrong! But I paid it off, and I got the documents through yesterday with my certificate, so fingers crossed I dont need tyo use it, but if I do they pull through as a good company to deal with x

What's happening?

In a nutshell, claims have increased, not only in number, but in value. People don't just claim for car damage these days, they frequently want their pound of flesh by lying about an 'injury'.

Sheilas Wheels was the best for me. Yes, I am a man! Jenny paid £200 a year for it, and I'm a named driver - sweet!

My insurance company still havent taken payment for this years premium even though it lapsed over a month ago. They have sent me cert's and told me not to do anything if i wanted to continue, i searched around and the renewal quote was the cheapest so i didn't do anything.

Result! hope they forget to take payment next year as well

awaits the "had an accident and insurance wont cough up" thread

my quote with tesco's comes in @ £546 guess mines all to doing with hitting a stag which wrote my car off!

I always thought the quote came down when you had more children in the back - because you'd drive more carefully - mine did anyway. Not looking forward to renewal time though, all I keep hearing is that everything's gone up.

I'm the same, dreading renewal time as I am hearing everywhere that it is going up by quite a lot

My sister had the same problem, she tried loads of places, she went with Hastings Direct in the end, theirs was cheaper than anywhere else even if the cashback didn't track with TCB.

Thats a neat little website... I can confirm that my motor IS on the Motor Insurance Database today

shauneco - I understand what you mean as some people can be truely distracted by fighting kids in the back.

I had a car crash when 5 days off my due date with my 3rd baby, I had my 2 young girls in the back, this accident was caused by a boy racer up my butt and a girl behind him doing her make up, this caused a 4 car pile up, My eldest daughter visably injured her arm and had to have medical help with it, I clamied for her injuries which has gone into the court funds till she is 18.
If my kids are screaming in the car I just ignore and turn music up till they all fed up of the noise!

Just taken out the policy. £225.25 including legal protection. That's an increase of just £8. Very pleased with that.
Beth, I didn't get asked, on any of the quotes I did, if we have children.

Best thing to do is,

Even if your mum or dad don't drive the car, stick that person in the insurance

Lisa stuck me on her insurance and the price went down £200

Sticking someone with lots of years of exp helps bring the price down

Only problem with that is you (almost always) don't earn any no claims discount.

Im at the maximum no claims discount anyway, she is earning it now

I'm not losing out at all

You've for me thinking now lol

I had the max years no claims but now I'm on her insurance and she is the main driver

Will I lose my years no claims or does that stick with me, I have the proof letter from my previous insurer with my years no claims

Your no claims expire after a year I think, May be 2 but they do expire..!!!

I've got a quote from tesco which seems much lower than others at the moment. My renewal came to £1998 on endliegh. I've made a claim against it which has shot it up dramatically. I searched around and found tesco to give for £1780. But once I entered my clubcard, it went down to £1468 :D. Gona search around more before I take this on, but no one else has offered anything lower than £1900.

Tesco car insurance also have a refer a friend scheme. If anyone has a as a policy with them, we could both be better off with £10 voucher or 1000 points. PM if you have a policy with tesco car insurance so we can take advantage.

Heres the link:

Yup saxo your no claims discount will be nothing if you go on someone else's insurance for a while.
