Car insurance questions - help

I have car insurance with SwiftCover, i pay monthly and firstly i was wondering if i could cancel my insurance with them half way through (6 Months in)

Secondly, if i do cancel my insurance with Swift Cover and go to another company it means i will have a year and 6 months no claims. Now can i then do another 6 months at another company and then have 2 years no claims, or will it just go back down to 1 year as i would have to spend the FULL year at the same company?

Thanks

I cancelled a polciy mid-term once, lost that years no claims. I was on year 3 to 4 of NCB but dropped back to 3.

I think you will find usually the penalties for cancelling after just a month or two cancel out any savings, you will be expected to complete the payments anyway...

If you are paying monthly i thought that was one of the benefits that you could cancel early??

So i would use the 6 months no claims.

Dont think i will bother then

My wife is cancelling hers today after 1 month with Sheila's Wheels the policy was £490 and they are giving us £357 back (an expensive month).

i was with swift and sold car after a couple of months, they charged me about a months premium for admin that was all, you would probably lose the 6 months you have earned though.
May be cheaper with that in mind to fill out the year with swift then change at the end.

some companies bind you to a 12 month contract if paying by installments - we are with ONE CALL insurance services and they are THE most terrible insurance company I have ever been with and we are bound to them until later this year unfortunately - I really wish I could move insurance now because I would gladly.

When you sign up for car insurance and pay monthly, you're generally tied into a 12 month contract (a bit like mobile phone contracts). Some will let you cancel without any penalties (not many), some will let you cancel with some penalty (most), and some will expect you to pay up the full cost of the year. Easiest thing to do is phone up swift cover and ask, or check the paperwork to see if it tells you anything about cancelling early...

Yeh i have decided to stay with them.

If not they would only refund me 30% of my premium, when i am only like 45% of the way through my insurance.

And with that in mind it would end up being just as expesnive to move to a cheaper insurer.

Oh well
