What model ? Year ? Does the lights on the dash light up ? Does it turn over but not start?

Was she trying to warm up the car as a 5 year old thought.Just had a quick look depending on where you live looks around 60-70 quid for a new one

she has cooked the immobilizer sensor. a replacement is necessary.

I would also say the immobilizer chip has been fried.
If the car turns over and over and over, but won't start it's a safe bet.
Plus I think new ones need to be decoded, so probably dealer, or have a mechanic bypass the immobilizer, if key replacement isn't worth it, in relation to the car cost..

I work in Halifax at a garage, do you have a spare key?

As drtongue already said. It the immobiliser sensor.(transponder)
Its a small sensor that sits inside the fob and when put into the ignition demobilises the immobiliser. The key will still do all the other stuff except start the car without the transponder working.

Well there seems to be quite a few places that do heres one i just found
extremelocks.com/loc…fax

Likely nuked the security transponder. New transponder and recoding equipment likely to be required, possibly plus some secuity info unique to your car (the Vauxhall "Car Pass"?).

How long was the keys in the microwave for was there any sparks etc

Original Poster

nope. no spare key

There is a chip in the key that the immobiliser needs to read. That has been fryed. If you have no spare key then the option to have a key cloned can't be done. That leaves you with either having your entire computer system replaced or taking it to Vauxhall for hopefully a new key, if not, it may get extremely expensive. give SUREFIX a ring in the morning and I will help all I can, 01422 359447. thanx a lot . will be in touch in the morning hope

what year is it by the way? if it is one of the first models and it is similar to the first Corsa, you maybe able to turn the hazard warning light switch upsidedown, to bypass the immobiliser. can't see it being likely though

I know I'm going to get fried on this comment by some but I think it's a legitimate helpful comment under the circumstances.

House or car insurance - that's why you pay for insurance when accidents happen. Depending on the type of car insurance and/or excess it might be better to go with home insurance.

OUCH! Do you have insurance on the phone? £150 + fitting on new LCD

Original Poster

nope didn't get insurance on the phone.

it's not cheap, daughter lost remote key for fiat 500, dealer wanted £150, got manual key cut at Timpson's for £60 but no remote, Timpsons needed original manual key to do this. So if only one key and fried it, dealer will be only way.

You don't have car insurance but you have a car?
or
You don't have home insurance?
With home insurance you are protected against accidental damage which IMHO this is

If you can get to huddersfield there's a place in paddock on church Street, there's a locksmith he's really good will try send repair key or if needed get you a replacement. But replacement aren't cheap

Dont the AA do that replacement key service?
its either that or claim on car insurance. Thats what its for, after all.

This won't work for the OP

Remote Central Locking is seperate from the transponder for the immobiliser. As mentioned you can get a new transponder chip but you'll need to have someone link the new frequency transponder to the ECU / immobiliser.

Like as been suggested you've most certainly fried the transponder chip as well as the r/cl.

Your best option would probably be an auto electrician, Most should be able to reprogram new keys, They might even be able to supply you with a new key themselves etc.. Most would be cheaper than Vauxhall.

If you had another key you would have plenty more options, You can often have them cloned.

I would strongly suggest getting two keys done.

You can buy new keys on Ebay for circa £15-30

You could use your current key blade on the replacement fob but you would still have to have it reprogrammed.

If you got a blank key from ebay most places would refuse to cut them so bare that in mind.

Hope that helps.

Ask the person that posted online what they did after " putting a Vauxhall zaifra key in the microwave " only theirs was a 2008 ! How strange ..or the guy who put a " Vauxhall zafira "2005 key " in the microwave " .. Wow coincidence? .. Maybe not.

Put the car in the microwave so the remote and the car are the same wavelength.
