Any mechanics about

I think the central locking is going on my car (95' rover metro), so much so that i cant access the passenger or rear passenger as much as i try.

I use the central locking, and all thats working now is the driver and rear driver door, the other two doors wont open at all, by either pulling up the lock(wont pull up) or trying to open the door from the inside.

Rear passenger only went yesterday, i could cope with just the passenger, but not both now, any ideas how much this will cost to get sorted out, as i really dont want to scrap my beloved car

I've had electrics go on 2 cars, I'm too cheap to pay hundreds to fix it so I tolerate it till I want a new car and I sold one, crushed another.

Not helpful I know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's working again by summer, but you do have a decade old car, it's a sign of dieing.

Funny you should say that, i bought the car back in april, the central locking wouldnt work on the front passenger, not really a problem.
By summer it was working again, but then it packed up on that door about a month ago again now.

With the back door going, im quite concerned now, as if i have an accident those doors wont open.

Will have a fiddle about with it later, see if i can get them to open via the fob - never bother 2 use it.

Think the CL is just being akward in the winter, but the back door hasnt done this before.

Bless my car getting old, just dont wanna let her go, as shes in good nick, and has low mileage, its been a really well looked after car

If you can't unlock the door by pulling on the lock release button, then the locking mechanism has siezed or broken. I would keeping trying to open it manually and when successful, take the inside cover off the door and apply a fair amount of wd 40 to the locking mechanism.
The cold won't be helping matters but it can be quite expensive to fix at a garage as they'll usually try to sell you new locks rather than fix the old ones. You could always get the locks off a scrapped metro (plenty of them) and replace them yourself using a haynes manual.

I agree with monkey! Get a big can of wd40 and go crazy (not too crazy though!) -Spray it directly into the keyholes first. the stuff is reaaly clever - if the mechanisms have dried up/ seized the wd40 will work it's way into the bits and pieces and hopefully free it up! If that doesn't do anything then it's off with the door panels looking for rust!

 Suggest you try an auto electrician, locally, rather than a main garage. Interestingly, these R the people that garages who do not have employees with the neccessary skills bring in anyway - which is a lot of garages. Trust me.

Thanks for the advice kids

Well no kids, but its just my saying, will give WD40 a try tomorrow, but i think ive broke the back door lock, it will go up and down by hand (please no comments on that!) but not by the central locking - im happy at least my car is secure

Just the front door giving me grief, not a big problem, but its funny watching my mum struggling to get across the seats :giggle:

Nice post.

thanks ive had a couple metros myself.

And if the door locks/unlocks by hand, but not centrally, its the solenoid...and im not sure wd40 will fix it, but those metro forum guys will tell whats wrong, how to fix it, where to gets the parts, heck, one might live local and help you do it!
