    Car Recommendations Please!

Looking at buying a new car sometime in the near future. I am 23 with no NCB and live in London and held my license for 2yrs thus insurance is ridiculous thus needs to be cheapish to insure.

But of course running costs, parts, servicing etc all need to be considered as well.

I think my budget shall most probably be the second hand market around the £2.5k mark unless there are some good deals on new cars which you can recommend.

Corsa is usually good for new drivers. I think they still do 1 year free insurance, not sure though. I did this, saved me around a grand....

That was actually the first car I drove, a 2003 Punto 1.2 8V which my Mum actually has now didn't mind it and she has had it for 2years with little problems. So might be a viable option.

Thats alot for a new corsa. Blimey... I paid 6500 for a new corsa with a free years insurance.

    Bloody inflation

Yeah I have a separate thread regarding the Peugeot JAF deal but there are no actual figures online as such so need to find them out. I have also considered Car Clubs as we have Streetcar literally outside our door, but ZipCar are cheaper but the car is further away. Also it seems difficult to compare cost.

    Cheers.

Is that why the Punto got 4stars on the Euro CAP and then 5 stars for the Grande Punto? It might look like it crumbles but that is to absorb the energy from a crash so the people inside dont get hurt as much.

2005 corsa with 50K go for £2000-£2500 these days which is pretty good for a reasonable car (VW polo would be £4000!).

I actually saw a 2003 Corsa A/C 20k for £2500 but it was automatic and not sure if I really want an auto...but the price considering the mileage seemed good even to me. Plus I'm sure there is room to haggle if I pay cash.

never had an auto but really cant see the Brits reluctance to opt for one, especially if you do a lot of city miles.

zipcar and streetcar are the same company but the merger is being looked at by the govt.
for me i got rid of my car and used zipcar. Saved in the same way some pay&go mobile customers save money....try it for a few months you'l find out if it's worth it for you.....connect by hertz are doing free membership at the mo
    so factor in car buying + depreciation + mot + service + parts + vandalism + insurance excess' + washing/cleaning + accessories
    + insurance + parking/resident parking + congestion charge + breakdown cover
    fuel

with car club those are mostly all included ! just the petrol alone is worth the hourly rate

Yeah I read about a merger, that would be awesome as would make it cheaper and more convenient!
I actually applied for Connect by Hertz last year but never followed up my details due to exams etc. The thing is where I am the nearest cars are over the other side of the Thames in MIllwall and although its not far it is a very roundabout way of getting there.

Might have to reconsider Streetcar/Zipcar, it just seems £40/50 a day to use it is very expensive.
