car rental in malta how can i avoid extra charges

    Hi
i am planning to take family out on a surprise trip to Malta, i have check atound on car rental and for a week i cab get a car for 80 quid but due to the flight timing i will have to pay out of our charges of 23 quid on collection and return. plus i have to give a deposit of 1000 euros plus fuel deposit. i have read so many reviews and horror stories about car rental in Malta.

is there any service which adds all of these charges in the rental at a reasonable cost and i dont have to worry about any surprises.

    appreciate your help thanks

Do you really need a car. Malta must be one of the worse places to drive. They don't have any regard for rules of the road or your car.

You don't need a car in Malta bus service is good and cheap

You really dont need a car getting around malta

    THIS!

If you do have to, make sure you take pictures of every single inch of the car, the guys checking the car back in will try and fleece you at the airport (tried it with me last time I went but I'm maltese, as soon as they realised that they dropped it)
As above, the standard of driving in Malta is shocking so take care!

    Have a look here

There is a desk at the airport where you can buy the bus cards. You don't particularly need one each as you can ping the same card for each member of the family. You need to work out what the most economic option is between the week pass and the 12 journey card.
You wouldn't want to be driving anyway as you wouldn't be able to fully take in the view on the approach to Mdina which is quite something. You can knock a visit to the Azure Window off your list of things to do, which is a shame as it made up 3 of the top 5 things to do in Gozo.

Ok well with 7 days you will be able to cover everywhere you want to go including Gozo.Where have you researched so far and what you interested in looking at etc

When you did your research why did you decide on the Qawra region

I rented from hertz at the airport a few years ago. Had no problems at all.

car rental was terrible when we went, bad cars and drivers mental, we hired a driven minibus for our group and it was fantastic, got to all places we wanted , noone had to drive and quite cost effective when shared cost , cant remeber how much ,

Great Island. The potholes are a nightmare though. Do recommend the Blue Grotto but don't advise driving after dark.
