Hi guys,

Im looking to rent a car when I head to Iceland but what codes and vouchers do you usually use to get price down? Is there a typical insurer who is cheaper and whats your method of getting the price lower

Appreciate all the help

Often significantly cheaper to buy excess insurance from a specialist prior to travel rather than direct with the rental operator, but worthwhile checking if the rental operator accepts external XS insurance. Some operators will accept external XS insurance but may raise your payment card security hold by whatever covers the XS amount (on the assumption your card is billed for any XS charges on rental return and then you claim the XS charge from your insurer).
Take a look at reykjavikcars.com/ for car renting, when we went 2 years ago they were the cheapest by a far way, picked us up from the airport and dropped us back off with no problems.

Car was nearly new and had no issues with returning it.

I'd agree with above that external insurance is the best option, that what we did via admiral. Didn't have to claim so can't comment on how easy

We went in the summer and just had a kia estate car, we are looking at going in February again and it will probably be a Rav4, all the locals seemed to be driving Dacia dusters when we last went, so that must perform Ok in winter!
