The best one depends on your car, its always best to go into mothercare or halfords to have a few tested in your car then when you know which fits best you can shop around

MaxiCosi is one of the bests

Recarro is the best, you can get them online from Halfords and delivered direct to you.

Recarro making racung car seats so as you can imagine they very supportive. I had an online discount and was pleased i paid teh extra as was gona get a top of the range britax. At the end of the day this is gonna keep your baby safe until they 4, so no point in skimping IMO

Both these places managed to break mine and my husbands seatbelts from fitting a car seat. They didnt even appologise and havnt done anything about it.

I was going to go for a maxi cosi one for my 6 month old, but my OH decided on going for the britax evolva one, as it was up to 11 years, and the maxicosi was only up to 4 years  he kept banging on about making it last!

They were both top rated and the only difference so it seems was the age range

nice seat, but no halfords member will recommend you use that with a 6month old. You need a rear facing seat until they are 9 months minimum, 12months is better.

Depends on weight, my son had to have a forward facing seat from five months cos he grew too heavy for the rear facing seats!:) We took advice and were told that as he could sit up and was too heavy, he would be safer in the forward facing seat.

I have a britax not sure of the model but it can accomodate fowward and rear facing, my baby faced forward from 6 mths as he was of a heavy weight, not sure about it being 9 months as all children grow differently.

    my comments exactly

OMG. seriously??? its naff all to do with weight!!!! A child can be fat and heavy but still not developed enough to go forward facing. It is unlikely they will have developed the strength in their neck and back to withstand even heavy braking whilst being forward facing never mind being in an accident. What ever store allowed a seat to be fitted in your car for a child that age to go forward facing should be reported. it is dangerous.
Safety is far far more important than comfort.

I know as i was trained fully, at an intensive course provided by Britax.

Im horrified at the last 2 posts.

The german made 'concorde x line' range is one of the best in the world.

Only a few suppliers sell them here in the UK, I'm sure you can ebay though. But the reason is Mothercare have 'special' relations with brittax and a couple of other seat manufacturers, and concorde would not give them exclusivity.

All of their seats have a 5 point harness (brittax copied this) and most adapt from 6months until 11 years old. Brittax seats tend to end a 4yrs and you have to pay for another extortionate seat

yeh i dont doubt it. its just the 2 people that delt with us wernt very good. in the end i bought my car seat online. i know people make mistakes it was just the fact they wouldnt take responsibility for it.

THis is true, but im not here to sit and judge what other members think is right for their child and i assume that halfords would give correct advice like we had when we went with our 6 month old.

However as stated the seat i got has to be especially ordered and takes 2-6 weeks so buying it early is obviously advisable.

Even thought at 6 months my son was hanging over his maxi cosu rear facing seat, Halfords did advise that if i were to put him in a forward facing seat before the muscle in his neck and spine were fully formed. In the event of a crash or the car breaking hard the baby neck would break.

Needless to say i kept my son in his maxi cosi until he was over 9 months to be sure

    This may help you

We have the Bebe confort Axiss as me and other half have bad backs and this swivels so you don't need to bend in and get them in and out of the car, we would recommend it.

If you want one that lasts until the child is 12 yrs old - take a look ]here.

we've just bought one of these for our 5 month old baby, should last him until he's 4
