Car System front panels stolen but now located on eBay....

    Hi there

My fathers car system front panel was stolen a month or two ago and basically this guy on eBay has it listed. He also has my friends car fascia(alpine which is a pretty rare model). My dad however didn't report it to the police back then( i thought he did). However my friend did. There was no damage on both cars ( one was a skoda and the other vw).

This guy is also selling another 20 fascias. I kind of got p****** with him over the phone so i think ive risked all communications however he told me he buys in bulk etc.

Now hes only about 20 mins away from me which makes it even more suspicious.

What can I do about this?

I know thats the obvious but just before i do it. Theres no proof he did it nor witnesses...

If its any help we both still have the boxes for each system.

regardless, you should have a serial number and handling stolen items is still a crime

Would there be matching serial numbers on the boxes and parts?

Maybe he didn't do it, but if it has been stolen, it has been stolen.
    The Police should be informed.

If you can't prove it is your fathers, then that is a different matter, but if he has his collar felt, it will be a start.

    what's the ebay item number?

if you can prive its yours then report to police............. if you cant, give me a call and we can go down and duff him up.

dont tell him, i dont want too many people on it trying to out bid me lol

Find the box and serial numbers, then contact police. If it really is a stolen item and not just one that looks like yours (possible), chances are that the eBayer has plenty of other things stolen in his/her shed/garage/loft. You could make more than just your day happier as it could be the start of many crimes being solved (and no doubt taken from under some poor PC's nose right at the end by CID so they get all the credit).

Ok basically my friend has a new alpine, with the alpine is has the same serious number on the face plate and on the system so it can match however its a sticker so he may have peeled it off.

In regards to the sony, im going to go and find the box.

Do you think the police would investigate if you reported it just from the fact that it looks like yours and he lives 'local'?

I will go with my friend to the local police station after he finishes work.

Not removing a removable fascia panel?

    Doh.

If my car was stolen, and one that looks the same was up for sale locally, and I suspected it was mine, I would expect the Police to check.

    Is lynching still banned ?

Couldnt you just leave a bit of time then get your mate (or someone else) to ring him up.. I dunno, just make up some rubbish about being a car trader and being interested in half a dozen of them or something (make it seem worth his while to agree), ask to go round and have a look at the condition of them for example.. On the off chance hes not peeled the sticker off and you can check the numbers?

Have you taken screen shots or anything, written down his Ebay id etc, incase he pulls the listings after your call earlier.

If you get both plates back you'll be bi-winning.

worth a try, more likely to check it out now then after the cuts

Personally I would get someone else's ebay account to ask a question for the serial number, just make a story up saying you think it will work with yours but not sure. And see what happens. If they match then you go to cops.

bid on them then ask to collect

Depending on 'hard' you feel, you could always go and have a look at them and say 'look mate I know these are stolen and I know two of them are mine, give them back and we'll hear no more of it'

+ if it were me I would probably buy it back off him lol, cheaper than replacing the whole thing lol.

Can't see it being him. If he is a serial offender im sure he would have headunit removal keys, in which case it would take 30 seconds to cleanly relieve you of that as well.

To be honest I'd be giving Big Rick a ring.

This wasn't me, but I know an ex-colleague caught a thief of bikes at rail stations, searched his place and found something stupid like 200 other bikes in the thiefs garage. The thief did time and so it can sometimes work.

Yeah, agree. I'd say it's worth a tenner to get it back. His feedback is good too, so you should actually get it.

The sony is more than a tenner and the alpine (being an alpine is alot more too.) Will get the police involved

If its the same seller he's only got 2 alpine fascias. One is £36 but listed as new/boxed. The other is £6. 99 + postage. Different seller?
