    Car tax query

just bought a new car, it was previously a Cat c write off but now has been repaired, it has all the documents with it.

I was wondering whether i can tax it without the logbook because the person who i am buying the car off hasn't received it yet.

Also i am now insured on the car but i don't have a cover note (certificate) yet. Am i still able to get tax for the car?

No tax without a valid insurance certificate post office wont issue it!

Dont know about the log book thing

I thought this was a joke! Cat tax! LOL

    You'll need insurance paperwork...

    edit

For my motorcycle they demanded the logbook- it was a pain because I hadn't received it yet. The post office website say's something completely different though

You'll also need to take along:
a valid insurance certificate or cover note - not a renewal invitation or a photocopy, facsimile, policy receipt or schedule
a valid Vehicle Test Certificate. if required. Your tax disc reminder should tell you if this is needed.
for disabled tax class only, a valid Exemption Certificate

Did you really buy a car off someone who doesn't have the proof of ownership?

Hope its from a reliable source.

Without the logbook, the car could be stolen. Sound rather dodgy to me.

I know the guy i bought it from so its not dodgey. He bought the car off someone who had repaired it from CAT C damage, he then had it VIC checked and sent away fro the logbook, I've just agreed to buy it off him before the logbook has come back.

just been in the dvla office for ages and you cant tax it (your car or you cat) unless you have the logbook,
