Found 26th Nov 2010
I've been looking for a second car for me and the wife due to my new job being a good hours drive away from home, compared to a 10 minute rail journey in my last job. I've found a 56 plate Astra which I'm interested in, however I'm working to a budget. I've offered the dealer £500 less than the asking price which he has agreed, BUT he has said that should I take it for that price he will offer no warranty.

I've been looking around online for a warranty company and have found a couple, the best one at the minute seems to come from Autotrader, but does anyone else have experience of these or others that they can recommend? I've been quoted £14 a month to cover a years warranty on the car which I think is reasonable, but if you have any experience or feedback I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

The only advice I'd give you is to check exactly what it covers in the small print as these warranties seem good only to discover they don't cover stuff like aircon etc.

I'd never buy another car without comprehensive manufacturers warranty.

give the T&C's a good read because they have lots of exclusions and like any insurance if they find an excuse not to pay it will be up to you to challenge it.....

Walk away if he doesn't give you at least a 12 month warranty with it.

3rd party warranties can be a right pain.....

A dealer cannot sell a car to a retail customer without a warranty, Sale of Goods Act applies.

Dodgy dealer.

Thanks all for the replies. Having scanned a few websites I think I'll give the place a miss as I should be getting some warranty at least by law, but he stressed to me on the phone earlier he definitely wouldn't be offering one, and would do it as a private sale rather than trade.

Got my eye on a couple more tomorrow so will give them a view.

Cheers all

Report him to trading standards ... he cannot sell a car as a private deal..

Just don't give warranty direct your details it took me over a year to get rid of em after i decided not to take one up. Am still getting calls occasionally from some place in Sheffield trying to sell me a warranty for my car.
