CARPHONE WAREHOUSE REFUSES TO PROVIDE PAC CODE

Got a new deal, was with CPW. but deal not with them. After many calls tonight, they said I have to write in and give 30 days notice to get my PAC code off them, according to their written contract rules. Won't budge. They are totally wrong, 30 days notice is only to end the contract, not obtain PAC code.

So, anyone thinking of going to CPW, don't consider ever leaving them with your number because they will make life very hard for you. They are all on targets not to lose a customer so will just tell complete lies to try and keep you. I have to have my number (business)

I don't suppose OFCOM are interested so that is why I am posting here, to warn anyone considering using them.

Agreed.......... If they want to include something dodgy that other providers dont - and use it for something they are not entitled to - they dont deserve the business!

Bit worried because i will be leaving them when my contract is up in 3 months. Took a 18 month out with em at £50 a month deal cos nobody else would give me a contract at the time. Need to keep my number if they mess me about with my pac i'll make there life hell

Cheers. Just checked OFCOM site out. They have to do it within 2 working days now. Some good info and phone numbers. Some info from their site.

"If your mobile phone company still refuses to allow you to take your number with you, or if you are experiencing any other problems with moving your mobile number from one company to another, It is likely that the problems you are experiencing are complex.
In cases such as these it is usually best to talk through what has happened with one of our specialist advisers. This will enable us to get as many details from you as possible and give you specific guidance on what you should do next."

Dont companys like CPW think that doing this to ppl they wont go tell there family or friends? effectively losing customers in the long run. I wont use them again i had issues with them returning my £100 deposit. Issues with cashback. will go direct to a network next time. Thanks for the ofcom link will save that for when my time comes to leave em.

Reputation seems to count for nowt these days. In fact bad publicity seems to count for a lot more, because it is better than no publicity at all.......apparently

All details of CPW conversations given to OFCOM today. They were very helpful and are contacting CPW

No alternative, had to WRITE in to obtain the PAC code. We will see whether it arrives within 48hrs. Also had a call from CPW.........trying to persuade me to take out another deal with them HA

What did ofcom say, considering it says on their site it has to be done within 2 working days?

OFCOM very helpful. They contacted CPW and told me yes, their terms specified I had to write in to request PAC code.

One minute over the 48 hrs and they will take swift action. They will also look into my complaint that 48hr is more like a week if you have to WRITE in.

IMO many companies offering really good deals now, so for the sake of a couple of quid......CPW just not worth the hassle. It is a CPW contract you agree to not a big company like 02, Orange etc which appear to be far more reasonable about PAC codes. CPW is a loophole contract cleverly worded to stop you leaving them with YOUR number.

I have been stung. Hope I can help others to avoid the same problem.

I have had my number for 12yrs, mine long before I went to CPW...........maybe mobile numbers should be like personalised reg plates!!!
