Carribean Carnivals - what music is it?

I went to the carribean carnival in Leicester today. What is the music they play from the floats that the costume dancers dance to following? It's a fast tempo with sort of a calypso/drum/bass/fast rap mix. Is this Soca? Some of them had dj's doing some mixes too but it was all the same style. Can anyone give any examples of artistes to look out for?

Before anyone says, no it's not standard reggaae or steel drums!

no sure myself.. but ill ask the boss in the morning.. she was working there today..

Yeah it's Soca, check out Byron Lee, Alison Hinds, Destra, Rupee, Kevin Lyttle, Square One etc ...

What was I wearing?!!!! I was the one with jeans and a t-shirt!

Actually I was racing about doing loads of shirt, big camera and rucksac bag...was with the parade backwards and forwards up and down it throughout the route...

I was wearing a hi vis vest and a very weary expression, lol

Got there at 6 am and the park was basically empty, was quite cool to see it all finally come together.
