Hi Everyone, I'm looking to do my CBT and wanted to know where I can buy decent priced bikes, so 125cc is the max they can be i believe on a CBT I beleive. I'm not after a moped or scooter... and looking for a used one, as new bikes are far tooooo expensive, will obviously be looking to be the gear as well.
Ideally price range will be around £1,500 - 1,700 for the bike and gear

Any help will be great, thanks

Hi there, i have a sym xs 125 which is a nice bike costs about 8/9 quid for a full tank and gets me around 330km before i need to refil it! i paid 1500 quid!

you will get a cracking bike for £1500-£1700. Get a 2003 ish honda or something at 125cc.

I really love the Honda cbr 125's. IMO the nicest looking 125's. You can get a decent second hand one for around £1600.

try bike trader. You will get everything you need for £1500

One word of advice, please do not buy a second hand helmet as you don't know its history.

I am a biker and my son races F2 sidecars so know what I'm saying from friends experience! Oh and make sure it fits perfectly.

IF you only want a bike [125cc] to pass your CBT , you dont need to spend nearly 2 grand . I bought a second hand Suzuki 125 from Auto Trader years ago to pass my CBT for only a few hundred , it was taxed and tested and in good condition . I passed my test's with it a sold it on . I agree , if you want to keep it and use it after the test you may want something better and more pricy . But , there are some bargains to be had . I often see them in adds in newsagents windows .

Looking to buy one after ive got my CBT.... one of the tings id be concerned with is getting the bike to the CBT test centre lol

I'm positive I drove my 125 to the Cramlington Center to take the CBT test . It was taxed and insured and I had a full licence for a car but only a provisional for the bike .Are you not allowed to drive a 125 without taking the CBT first ? .as long as your taxed and insured and got L plates .
The rules must have changed then .

The ****** is i passed my car license just a few month after they changed the law, previously you could ride up to 50cc on your car license.... with it being a manual im not too sure about just getting on a bike and start riding it lol..... im pretty sure i need the CBT?

Bike trader is brilliant.... wel im a car guy and used auto trader alot.... this seems ideal, just gota find the right bargain... know enough about cars, and no nothing about bikes, hopefully same kinda logic applies

Just found this :

COMPULSORY BASIC TRAINING (CBT)

All learner motorcyclists and moped riders must complete CBT before riding on the road unless they
* Passed a full moped test after 1 December 1990
* Live and ride on specified offshore islands
* Already hold a Certificate of Completion (DL196) obtained during a previous motorcycle entitlement or when riding a moped
* Intend to ride a moped and passed the car tests before 1st Feb 2001

When you've completed CBT you'll be given a DL196. You must produce this before you can take the practical motorcycle test.

In my case ,it must have been because I already owned a full car licence . I did drive to the CBT test center with L plates on .
