    CCTV for Home

    Hello,

hopefully somebody will be able to help, Im looking at getting CCTV for around the house and was wondering if anybody has any experience in this area? such as what systems to get etc. Would probably be looking for 3+ cameras with the function to record. outdoor is a must.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
What was your budget ? Just installed 2 cameras outside my house which link up to pc ( so can record to server I believe ) ... I have them set to email me pictures whenever 'motion activated' - I an also control them via an app on my iPad ;-)
    Cheers

not really thought of a budget, your setup sounds ideal I have storage options to hold the data and the app side sounds great, How much did all that cost if you dont mind me asking. Also for the wiring how did that work? im no electrician so would I need a sparky to put in somekind of power feed?

    Cheers

Really cheap - 2 x cameras were £108 and the app was £2.99 ... They are wireless so only need a power supply. Give me your email and I will post you the link and pics to see of cameras in use.

You can also control cameras from anywhere abroad to view inside / outside house whilst on holiday

no no, nothing like this lol. been a few vandals in the area recently and just want to feel a little more comfortable.

Always wanted a couple of CCTV cameras outside the house too... Wasn't sure what would be cost effective i.e. Having a digital recorder/pc running 24/7 would not be cheap...

At least you didn't ask for one you can fit in a shower!

I would quite like some CCTV outside my house too to see which little scruff in the street nicks and looks through my rubbish.
Cleared out the kids cupboard the other day and threw away a couple of bin bags of toys etc, little scavengers ripped the bin bags open and took what they wanted!
Not kids either as bags were there 10pm and gone by 6am!
    Total scruffbags

I never liked the idea of CCTV's that are linked to Pc's to record ,what happens in a power cut , or if the PC gets a criticle update and reboots .I have an ip camera but it just allows to scan the street on the PC or laptop to view. I have separate DVR's with hard drives in , I can link upto 4 cameras and they will record 247 and re-start if the power fails . You get a multiplex picture on the TV or monitor and it will record 1/7/15/25 frames per second depending on how long you want the hard drive to last .I bought a mobile 4 camera DVR a couple of years ago from Maplin, designed for use in a car ,taxi ,truck , it runs from a 12v source , infact they nearly all do and recently bought a SD card model from Dealextreme . It too runs from a 12v source , links to any CCTV camera with a BNC connection and can be used in the home with a 12v adapter .There are loads of options when considering to buy a system but I would allways go for a wired system . The idea of remote sent warnings and emails dont interest me and I would'nt want to be checking a picture on a phone while in the pub every few minutes . As long as I have a record of what happened , time , date and damage done for the insurance and Police is good enough for me .

UPS for PC then you don't have any of the issues you mentioned above Ricko. Disable automatic updates and jobs a good un.

Upload to external sevrer with backup Sim in case phone line gets cut and you're covered for the scenario that your CCTV system gets nicked...

what was the name of the iphone app?
