not bought one but had a demo of one a year or two back. Think it has a program you install on your computer that has a search facility on.. the machine finds the disc and spits it out for you. Thing that put me off them is they are pretty large.

Thanks andy. That is the thing that sort of put's me off but 100 dvd's must take up more space than this machine.

I was looking at a similar one at ]SVP that takes 150 discs.

It can be operated by computer or it's own keypad and you can connect aload of them together. What put me off was how many I would have to buy and the cost

]PC World have a small case that holds 80 discs. Sure its not as gadget like but its a little cheaper. I have a couple of them and providing you stick them back in the right sleeve according to the contents sheet on the front it works just as good.

Thanks for the links to the other types.

The case from pcworld is not quite what i am after but thanks anyway.

The one at svp seems to be out of stock so not an option right now.

I was looking at buying one of these, but didnt in the end. I just figured I'd buy a new extra harddrive and back things up that way. I would still save everything on disc, but store the disc away incase of harddrive failure. Its much easier and cheaper and doesnt take up same amount of space. Ive got over 2 terabytes now (2326GB of useable space to be exact)

100 discs at 4.7gb = 470GB - Price of 500GB harddrive £60 - £80. Harddrive also guaranteed for longer than the 12 months of these units.

There was also a review of the stakka somewhere and they opened it up to look how it worked inside. It definately didnt look like it was worth the £100 it was priced at.

ohhhhh man i got to get me one of these , santa needs to be informmed

Yes, but discs are portable! Besides, I dont have too many DVDs that are 4.3GB in size - and you would still need somewhere to store those discs you have shrunk onto your hard drive.

Ive looked at buying a few of these, but to be honest, you have to be quite organised in the first place to label everything correctly in the suplied software! That ruled me out!!

    Good point guv

Well yes you would, you can get one of those material storage thingys, i cant think what there called. I guess it just depends on what kind of discs your wanting to store. Mine are mostly music, pics and video footage off my camera that i burned myself so the discs dont have an individual case to begin with. I just buy them plastic sleeve thingys, the backup discs are then stored in a little storage tub in a cupboard.
