Celebrating Turkish bridegroom kills relatives

A bridegroom in Turkey has accidentally killed three relatives while firing an AK-47 in celebration at his own wedding, Turkish media reported.

The groom lost control of the weapon as he tried to fire in traditional celebration in the air at the ceremony in the village of Akcagoze in south-eastern Gaziantep province.

The guests were sprayed with bullets and the groom's father and two aunts were killed.

The groom has been arrested.

The Anatolia news agency reported that eight other people were injured in the firing.

The three who died succumbed to their wounds in hospital.

Firing into the air is commonplace as a celebration in parts of Turkey and has on many occasions led to deaths and injuries.

Turkey has tried to impose harsher penalties but has not ended the practice.

Am sure I read a story last week about a wedding photographer (in another country) got the bride and groom to pose with GUNS but one of them went off killing the photographer oO ....Why he wanted them to pose with guns who knows.

And Cameron wants the Turks in the EU?

lol, darwin dumbasses

What a way to get rid of your new mum in law? I accidentally shot her?

What a tragedy for the family. But the truth is there are going to be accidents where guns are.
How can we be one big happy EU when we have such cultural differences.

Yeah because there's no gun crime in the UK? *Rolls eyes*

DarkKnight is right - I can't be the only one bored of people firing off AK47s at weddings. Confetti was bad enough, but try getting Aunt Gladys out of your lapel.

DarkKnight - saying what other people won't....

where was it mentioned this was a crime? Are you sure you're British as you seem to hate this country?

to be fair, it does state the groom was arrested and that harsher penalties have been put in place

Well a triple manslaughter is usually regarded as a crime don't you think?
And my comment was not anti-british. It was just pointing out the irony as a lot of people were criticising without thinking.

What sort of weddings do you go to that the groom fires AK47s?

On second thoughts, I'm guessing from your subsequent replies, its a normal activity for you. Irony? I laughed out loud!

Wow.. playing the smart guy! (It doesn't suit!) It's pretty obvious he was referring to an AK47 being at a wedding and fired and not killing people. If it were anyone else, I'd be intrigued to know why you'd regard it as a normal aactivity. Alas, I dont need a reply since I already know your wacky views.

Where did i say i support it? Are you assuming things again?
It's not legal to fire weapons at weddings in Turkey, or most other places. Of course weapons are allowed for shooting animals, just like here really.
So it's just a crime that the guy needs punishing for, just like crimes over here.

So i guess you must think that some guy in England going on that mass shooting rampage a few months ago was normal? Or the Moat shootings? Because those were actual murders not manslaughters.

Nope... its far from normal - and the answer didnt address the point made that firing such weapons at a wedding is just a little bit more than odd! From what's been said, (manslaughter aside), this is a common event. I hope you're not suggesting that a gun crazed psycho that snapped is similar? Oh... but then mabe you are?

I'm just wonderring if they just use AK47s or maybe another weapon of choice? Nothing quite like a RPG eh DK.

Yes of course it's odd, but of course is a means of celebration in many other countries such as Iraq/Afghanistan etc. But for most of Turkey it's far from normal.
This incident happened in south-east Turkey, which is nearest to the above countries. And with Turkey being such a massive country, different cultures filter through and for example, a lot of people in south-east Turkey are Kurdish, or have Kurdish blood, these should not be labelled as real Turkish people who don't do that kind of thing.

Also firearm incidents are extremely common around the world, and right now people in this thread are against Turkey for it.
But what about the thousands upon thousands of people who shoot each other with firearms in the US?
Should we then say "They have no right to be in the UN"?
