Richmonds Irish Recipe sausages on fresh barm cakes with some baked beans on. Yummy and very good for you :whistling:
In fact I'm gonna have some now.

For REAL budgeting, should anyone need to, this site is worth taking a look at at least for ideas
Its American so will need to adapt some of the recipes

    hillbillyhousewife.com/40d…htm

Another idea is always to start your shop at the reduced counter. By law the food has to be of good quality.

this thread stinks of favourtism :whistling:

Homemade soup is really good, uses any veg you have in the fridge and cheap to make a big pot of it - I just boil up veg with stock and then blend.

I make a bean soup which is REALLY cheap and VERY filling.

Put dried red lentils into boiling water with stock added for approx 15 minutes (usually says on the bag boil for 30mins, no need to soak) and then add various tinned beans and 1 chopped onion. Boil until cooked but still firm, approx 10 minutes, and then leave and reheat when needed.

You can get 3 tins of beans for £1 at sainsburys. You can use any you want, kidney beans are good because they add colour and I generally add a tin of chickpeas as well

Because its beans and pulses its really filling so you dont need to have much. Everyone I have made it for has really enjoyed it, and its one of the cheapest meals I make. Really quick and easy to make, cheap, healthy, filling - what more can you ask for!

    Found this recipe:

    You Need
tin of corned beefthe value variety works better than the dearer stuff)
Potatoes - depending on how many you are feeding
    Beef stock cube
    Gravy granules
    Carrots
    frozen peas

    To Make
Peel potatoes and chop into chunky but not to large pieces.
Peel carrots and chop into bite size pieces.
Add to a large pan with frozen peas, cover with water add the stock cube.
Chop the corned beef into small pieces and add 1/2 to the pan.
Simmer until potatoes are cooked to your liking - we like them to be quite mushy!
Add gravy granules until the gravy is as thick as you like it and add the rest of the corned beef.
    Heat through and serve.

i listened - beans on toast on the way! :-D

Make loads of batter, this freezes well and you can make toad in the hole. I use ramekins, part cook the sausages. heat some oil in the ramekins, put a sausage in each and pour in some batter. Bake in a hot oven for about 10 mins or until the batter cooks. Serve with beans, yummy

    im hungry!

My 7 & 3yr old daughters ADORE spaghetti carbonara. This recipe will cover 4 people, you'll know how much spaghetti your 4 people would eat so put that much in.

Cook spaghetti, in frying pan fry chopped up bacon in oil on low heat for same time as spaghetti (or if like me you can't be bothered, buy pancetta which is already chopped). Whilst they're cooking, in a bowl whisk 3 eggs, add to it double cream (second size up, around 300ml I think) and some parmesan cheese, you'll eventually get used to how much you like as to how strong you want it, I usually put in around 2 tablespoons.

When the spaghetti is cooked, drain it and then put back to the heat and pour on the cream mixture. Keep mixing with a wooden spoon until most of the liquid has disappeared and it looks like scrambled egg and this will coat all the spaghetti. Dish this out and sprinkle the bacon/pancetta on top.

Like I said, my girls love this and would have it every day of the week if they could. Quite cheap to make if you buy own make cream, or get elmlea on offer, and really easy.
