Cheap car insurance for 20 year olds

Found 14th Feb 2010
I feel I have exhausted every avenue

Any advice please or how much you have paid??

my cousin was 22 when he paid about 4,000 for a range rover.... so it shouldn't be that much for you? One of my m8s was 20 when he paid £2,000 for a 1.9 306..

Which car is it? and what engine size?

Cheap car insurance for 20 year old just does not happen.

I´ll insure you for 500 quid on any motor. Send me a cheque.

More than do a scheme where you can't drive after 11pm. Cost my 19 year old nephew £600 ish for the year instead of £1500

Try Elephant. They do a scheme were they give you a years no claims every 10 months so it gets cheaper faster.

try swinton...good for my 19 yo daughter

I definitely don't want a tracker on my car

Ommid;7837726

Cant seem to find that?

You need to phone more than and ask them. You would need a tracker on youtr car though as you get chanrged if you drive it after 11pm. It is one way to get the cost down. My nephew doesn't tend to drive afer 11 anyway as if he is out then he is drinking. From his point of view it meant he could have a car that he otherwise wouldn't have been able to get, no way could he has paid what the rest were asking. After 12 months it is a bit better as then you have your first year NCD.
Why so against a tracker?? It is only to see if your car is moved...

What did he get insured for? What price I mean
I don't like trackers because I see them as an invasion of privacy, they see your patters of driving, where you go, what speed you do.
I don't drive after 11 either and I certainly don't drink and drive ever.
To be honest the questions they ask are ridiculous enough as it is without them modifying your car

i feel for you, not all youngsters are boy racers, I'll be in the same situation soon when my lad turns 17, I have no problem in getting a cheap runnabout for him, its the insurance thats going to be a killer, be paying more for the premiums then what we will pay for the actual car. The whole insurance premiums for youngsters needs an overhaul in my opinion.

hope you get it sorted fella

Haha, it is an automatic for good sake!! What can I do in an auto!?

i found quinns were cheapest, however when i had a claim there service is horrific, they try everything to squirm out of doing their duty as insurers, and cant recomend enough not to use these. Key things i found to get my insurance down:

add a female driver, a mother/aunt. even if they never drive the car, it brings your insurance down, and this is not illegal as you are the named driver, your just giving them the option of being able to use your car if they need too.

work out exactly how many miles u did last year and try and keep your expected mileage as low as possible

if your 21 anytime soon, WAIT, the savings could be massive, around 400 for me and 500 for my friend who did this, try modifying your age now to see if the saving is worth waiting for

personally im with admiral, but i found elephant to be slightly cheaper, but as it is a sister company they matched it. found them cheapest for three years now on a 1.6 focus

Just them words alone say to me that the high insurance prices you are getting are justified. Why would you not want people to see what speed you are doing unless you are breaking the speed limit?
The prices are high for a reason. (HIGH RISK)

Ok then, maybe you should be an insurance risk calculator then, apologies if I don't want the insurance company to know where I am going with my car.

If I get hit in the back doing 10MPH they have that data, I didn't say speeding did I?

Maybe i am, and the most of the accidents/claims i see the highest % is from 17-24 year olds and mostly they are at fault. I am not saying you are gonna speed but the whole point of the tracking system is not to see how fast your going its to see when and what time you use your car,if you want cheaper car insurance and you wont be driving after 11pm then this is for you,you have asked for advice and been given advice. I do hope you get a cheaper quote but it will be hard because of your age. Thats why i said earlier no such thing as cheap car insurance for 20 year olds.

So does that mean if old women have more days off work than young men they should be paid less?

I'm glad you agree with the insurance companies and believe everything statistics tell you

Son 19 fully comp on Golf 1.8 about £1100 with Egg. Came down to about £900 when he changed to a 1.1 Polo

I am merely stating the fact that if every industry was calculated on a cost/benefit analysis or risk assessment based on our gender and postcode, their would be a big uproar believe me!

Most people have given good advice, you're the one moaning about speeding young drivers :-D

Thanks for the advice of getting a push bike for the motorway, I'll bear it in mind next time I am going to a Hospital visit in a £300 suit, tell your own kid the same things too I assume.

Wow you can afford a £300 suit but dont like the thought of expensive car insurance.
Was only trying to give advice not to upset you. No intention of upsetting anyone so i am sorry if i have.:)

Yup I can afford a £300 suit, and a £6000 car, and after paying for them have something to show for it. Where as car insurance is just a piece of paper, especially these days when they do anything they can not to pay out!

This might be worth a read for you Tara

50 million pounds offset onto drivers because a middle-aged suicidal man decided to kill him self and 7 others by parking his uninsured car on a train track.

i wouldnt want to get a tracker either, i dnt speed or anything but the fact they now where you are and where you go in your car (not that i do anything interesting except go to work and back etc lol) is invasion of privacy.
who are you with at the moment? have you found any cheaper then ther renewal quote?
i do agree with what the op sed about maybe try gettin a quote with a older person as a named driver and see if it brings it down any more.

I have been having my mum as a named driver in most cases because my dad can drive any car anyway.

At the minute with us all using it I am just a named driver on my dad's policy but I don't want my no claims bonus to expire, hence I want my own policy, and I just realised that he can only claim his NCB on one car.

I got a quote of 977 today with 4YoungDrivers who told me this was an error with comparethemarket.com and didn't honour it. So far Quinn is the cheapest at around £1150 fully comp but I have heard nothing but bad things.

The other thing is I don't like the idea of them being able to recover a stolen car with ease because the thought of having my stolen car returned to me just makes me cringe.

have you got a quote from you/ your dads insurance company? i was a named driver for 2 years on my dads and ended up taken my own one out this year with the same insurance company (direct line) and they gave me a better quote because i had the named driver NCB

I paid £1100 with Tesco, not the Value one I was a new driver as well in a 1.4 with pass plus and it was the cheapest for me....if you google pass plus insurers there's a few on there that are cheap

how much does pass plus take off the cost out of interest

They were with MoreThan which doesn't help because they aren't really competitive with young drivers

It really depends, first year it took off about 700 pounds with Endsleigh, now it isn't worth the paper it is written on because they say if you have NCB it is no longer valid and if you haven't had it in the last year it isn't valid
