Cheap insurance for 17 year old (CAR)

Hey i've just turned 17 and i've been searching for car insurance and the cheapest i've found so far is £4000 :O which is ridiculous, how they could expect any 17 year old to pay that is a mystery, and i was just wondering if any one's had any better quotes at this age and what insurance company you are with?

    thank you

p.s. tried every comparing insurance website aswell as normal companies

They do it because your classed as 'very risky' not on how able you are to pay it

For me when i just passed it was about £3000 to go on my car, so just went on my parents for 3 years £500 a year and now i can get insured for £800

    what car have you got?

I did the same, parents went with a company that gave named driver no claims and has meant I have never paid more than £500 for insurance.

My insurance company said as long as I drove it approx 50% or less and I didn't own the car then its ok to be a named driver.

ry doing a search on cunfused, but add one of both of your parents as named drivers...might help bring it down a bit

When I first passed at 17 I was a named driver on my parents policy (on my car at the time, 1.2 Clio) and cost about £1200.

Year 2 took out policy in own name and stayed the same price but I could then earn NCB.

    Year 3, new car (1.4 Golf) £620.

Not much you can do other than buy a group 1 car, drive it like a nun for the first year and shop around for the best deal.

As soon as you enter your age and gender into an insurance risk algorithm it will freak out and balance the risk with a high cost.

on my first car i was primary and added my mum as named driver and the cost went down. That was with elephant.

same as me but we were with direct line, so i earned no claims as a named driver, im with admiral at the mo but worth phoning around mate

    Try Quinns Direct.

My first year at 17 cost me just under £1000 with me as the first driver, but third party fire and theft.
    2nd year £600.

I will insure you for a thousand.

    I accept cash or cheques.

I have gone with Tesco (not the cheap one as this turned out more expensive) or directline. My boyfriend went with Quinndirect when he had a boyracer car as his first. Hope this helps but it will prob be around 1200-1400.

Could do your pass plus. I saved £700 quid on my insurance when I first started by doing it.

haha, £4000, try quido - hastings doing something like £55 cashback.

that will make it £3945, bargain.

whats the vehicle your trying to get insured on??!!
