Cheap international calls to mobiles - Advice please?

Found 21st Oct 2009
I'm currently on an O2 Simplicity contract, and have recently had to phone the Philippines (to a mobile number) on a fairly regular basis, which is proving rather expensive - to say the least!!

I've heard little bits about getting prepaid credits or using Access Numbers, but I'm really unsure what is the best/cheapest/safest way to get cheaper calls. One I found on ukstudentlife.com explained how you text one of 2 numbers for either £3 or £5 credit, then dial a UK Access Number (London) prior to the number you are calling. Anyone heard of this, or used it before?

Can anyone please give me some advice - either if you use something similar, or know of the best options for me? Any advice would be gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance xx

have u tried ATLAS phonecard its good to Philippines,
you can get online frm www.linkphonecards.co.uk

Not sure how much it cots for Philippines but Rebtel are excellent. They just text you an domestic number - you call it and go straight through - no access codes. Got my vote.

How about orange payg on camel tariff, calls to over 50 countries from 5p per minute from uk mobiles to overseas landline or mobile numbers

It's only a 30 day rolling contract.

Where does it say that?

That's what an O2 Simplicity contract is! I was on it myself at a stage.

Thanks again for all of your advice. I'm on the 30 day rolling contract with Simplicity, but when i called O2 about the "my country" package, the Philippines isn't one of the countries included unfortunately.

In the end I've opted for Localphone, which was on the link from moneysaving expert very kindly provided in the first post (thanks bigwheels xx). Made my first call using it last night and so far so good!

(I was told by O2 that the costs re between 88.9p/minte and £1.46/minute!!! Localphone cost me 69p for a 7 minute call yesterday - big difference!!)

Thanks again everyone - much much appreciated xx
