    Cheap Portable Hard Drive Wanted

    Hiyaaaa my first post so be kind

    I'm after a portable hard drive that plugs into my USB just so i can back up some stuff.

    It doesn't need to be a massive one just a few gig maybe 20 - 40

    Any help would be appreciated

    Just to note 20-40gig is very small for a external hard drive, you can even get memory sticks that are this size (32GB)

    but are all external hd's powered from the mains ? I'm in the similiar postion as the OP but wondered if they can just be powered via the usb socket ? as i'd like a plug 'n go hd without the hassle of having too keep plugging it into the mains.

    Depends on the hard drive, yes some can be powered just by the usb

    I did realise this but your correct to point out as i now think the original post may just want a USB powered hard drive. I will edit my 1st post.
