Just get the expensive option, pay monthly, then cancel within 14 days (I think) and get a full refund. Or just pay for a month, something like a tenner I think which was nice piece of mind on our holiday that we would get taken where we we wanted if they couldn't fix the car real quick.

I went with RAC, but I guess they all would let you do it. I just found RAC to be helpful on the phone whereas the AA told me they'd charge me £20 if I used my rights to cancel and their 30 days notice is actually 60 days as apparently you can't give notice in the first 30 days. To be fair the girl said she knew where I was coming from but their 30 days notice doesn't exist at the start, it's 60 days minimum.

thanks but im not sure i would be in a position to pay for the repairs to my car before hand

RAC and AA have a startup period during which they won't do a recovery (to stop people with a dead car taking out their membership and then getting them to do the pickup immediately). Not sure what that period is but you need to make sure that you take out the membership in good time before you travel.

You can pay by credit card or ask to be invoiced, although you do need to have a receipt before they will pay you back.

Phone them up and pay monthly, it's around £10 a month, but if you only want it for a month you only pay for a month.

If you only want it for a couple of weeks and cancel within 14 days having not used it then it's free!
