Cheapest compact flash/ microdrives?(Seagate 8GB £80)

Found 24th May 2006
I'm getting a new camcorder that uses micrdrives/ CF type 2 or SD cards. I have 2 4GB drives to take on holiday which should store 2hrs of HQ film. I don't have a laptop and I'm not sure the best way to store more photos/film while on holiday.
There is a seagate 8GB CF drive that may fit for about £80. Hitachi makes most of the microdrives but they are more expensive. SD cards are too expensive when you get up to 4-6GB as well.
Is this the cheapest storage option or is there a better way, such as a portable HD(without the need of a PC) or something?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks for that Rayman. At that price for external storage I should probably just buy a laptop to go with the camera.

check this 40Gb for £102.99 delivered (surely cheaper than laptop):

spudgun, where did you see 8Gb CF card for just £80?

Found a 40GB one for £94 delivered. Not sure about the 8gb seagate, maybe it was a 6gb one, I have looked again and found it for £105. I also have an Ipod Video, but I don't think you can store video files straight from a camera on to it.

Now also discovered that you can build these by combining a USB on the go box and 2.5" laptop hard drive. Now I need the cheapest 40GB 2.5" hard drive.

Ah you mean a passport drive type of thing?

This has just been reduced to £78.52p

80Gb Passport Drive

No you need a PC to use the passport drive. The USB on the go allows data transfer between camera and unit with no PC.

just add a 2.5" HDD

Ah now I get it Thanks

You should go for this

Thecus YES nano N1050 Black + 80Gb Fujitsu Hard Drive Combo £66.96 (add £10 delivery.)

It also has a OTG built in so you don't need a computer in between devices - its sounds so good that I'm sticking in an order for me too....

BTW other good thing is its really an external case for 2.5" drives so you can change the drive to a larger one when you need although 80GB should be enough?

I think that is going to be hard to beat on price, amazing find!
80GB is 20 hours of video, so that is great for my holiday.

i think I will be buying one immediately. Should post it in the Hot Deals.
