Cheapest place to fix a 360?

My launch day xbox360 has joined the masses and given up the ghost, can anyone recommend anywhere to have it fixed with a decent after service warranty?

If MS think i'm going to give them an extra £85 for selling me duff merchandise in the first place they can think again...

I think thier is a company called GT electronics or something like that and they charge £40 to fix the 360, if you look on xbox forum in the broken 360 threads someone will be able to give you the companies details

Flodd, do you get 3 red lights when you turn on?

Before you go about getting the 360 fixed do the following and see if it makes any difference and if not then you now it's knackered

1) unplug all cables attached to the 360
2) remove the hard drive if you have one
3) re-connect everything and power the system back up and see if it solves the problem and if not you will need it fixing

Done it - Still have the dreaded three lights...

How MS have got away with this fiasco i'll never know, I'd rather never buy a MS product again than give them £85 for fixing a problem of their own making...

search on YouTube the towel trick for xbox 360, it looks like it works, worth a shot!

check ur PM?

Company called GT-E in Dundee will do it for $50 plus postage to be covered each way.

Apparantly the towel trick is only a short time fix as it does not last long before you have to do it again

My 360 got picked up last Thursday by UPS and hopefully get a working 360 back within a week or so

have a look on bbc watchdog - If i remember they went to town on this about 3-4 months ago - may have some pointers..

Tried the towel trick and fingers crossed it's working again... Now have three options open to me :

1) Hold on for the Elite and upgrade existing last legs console using towel trick hoping that game / gamestation testing isn't that thorough.
2) Admit it's broken, pay the £85 and send it back to MS every 11 months (broken or not) in order to extend the warranty.
3) Hold out on MS and insist it's fixed for free (which is the current course of action).

I would not even consider options other than 3)! :-(

Anyone thinking of buying the elite think again as it sufferes the same "ring of death" problem as the current 360's as they are using the same chips in the elite but apparantly MS are are changing them so hopefully the eite will be reliable

My 360 is currently at the repair centre and I should be getting it repaired free of charge, my machine was 15 months old when it died on me

Why would you get an elite over a PS3?

The Elite will be around £350 when it comes out, and when that is the PS3 will be around that price. The PS3 is a lot more "elite" than an X360.

Also, it doesn't feature any upgrades to the internal workings, so will most likely break as often as a Core/Premium.

Cause I already have a PS3. Sadly I can't abandon the xbox360 completely as I've got around 20 games most of which I paid near full price for and I don't fancy trading them and making a massive loss - May as well keep em for future retro purposes!

If you go on www.gumtree.com Search for Xbox 360 repair. I found a place that was quoting around 40 and was giving me warranty on the fix too. I didnt get it fixed from there but its worth a try. Another thing you can do is if you know someone who go their 360 within the last 12 months you could do a little trick thing but PM me if you wnat to know about that lol
