    Cheapest way to get broadband?

    Hi Guys,
I'm just about to move into a flat in newbury. I'm really not bothered about getting a landline phone (I will have 2 mobiles & full signal). I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I know that a large number of companies require a BT landline. I think the flat is already hooked up, but obviously with nobody living in it yet no subscription is being paid.

So I imagine the cheapest thing I can do is pay BT line rental, and then get a broadband provider on top of that. I need it to be fast (4mbit+ - I know this depends on the area but I think it's fine, I'm in central newbury), and also to have a high download limit (>10GBit) as I will be using it instead of TV.

So I want broadband only (no tv or phone bundles) - what are you thoughts/experiences?

    Thanks for your help.

EDIT: important edit - I will only be living in the flat for 6months.

BT line rental + O2, which is £9.50 odd if you are on O2, or get and O2 PAYG sim. I'm not sure if there still doing the £150 quidco, but have a look on there and the bb is basically free for your first year.
They do up to 20MBit, depending whether you can get the adsl2, and no download restrictions, with no traffic shaping.

Do you know if it's in a cable area? You can check the postcode on Virgin Media's website.
They do a very good package here allyours.virginmedia.com/web…264

That sounds excellent. One thing I forgot to mention which is important is that I will only be in the flat for 6months (will edit main post).
I'm not on O2 though - I'm moving to Newbury to start a job with Vodafone!

    gutted

The O2 BB is very good, and you can transfer it to the new flat wen u move there... you will need a phoneline. Post office home phone, is cheaper than BT and very usable, there is NO min contract term to sign for the home phone. SO you wont lose money wen you move..

Thanks unileeds - so I can sign up with post office home phone and I wont need to pay line rental to BT? Or is that a separate deal for phones only that doesn't include line rental?

I didn't realise O2 BB was transferrable - that is pretty good news.

    +rep for all of you

Yup O2 wont charge you if you move houses more tha once a yr. O2 is quite good, make sure you go through quidco and get all that lovely cashback.

The Post office deal is inclusive of BT line rental so £11.75 a month is ALL you pay. Thats it. So your eefective monthly cost is £11.75+O2 broadband (for me it was £2.00 a month due to the cashback deal at the time).
Cant really see a more hasslefree deal.

BEthere do monthly contracts and are super fast. i think i have a promo code so you get a month free

May be worth while looking at this site to find out if your prefered BB provider is available through your exchange. I would love O2 but had to make do with TalkTalk as it was the fastest I could get in my area.
