Cheapest way to travel in London for 3-4 days

    Hello guys,

I will stay in London between 19-23 of November. I am arriving at Stansted Airport and planning to take a Uber drive to London Barking using the 20 pounds first time user promo. Then I will need transport between 1st and 4th zones (probably by metro) for me and my wife. My daughter is 3yo so I guess she will be travelling free with us. What will be the cheaper way to travel in the city. I am not familiar with your travel cards etc.

    Thanks in advance!

Pardon me, I posted the tread by accident before writing the body.

Thanks, but the problem is that my daughter will not be able to walk so intensivly during our stay in London.

If you have a contactless debit card you can just use that like you would an oyster card on the underground.

If you have a contactless card use that. It's so easy just remember to scan in and out at all stations. you can travel anywhere and it will cap your cost depending on which zones you travel in. When I was there last we sayed between zones 1 and 2 and it was capped at £6.50 a day. I think up to zone 4 is £9.30 a day. If your travel comes to less than the cap then you will only pay the price for your ticket. so much easier than an oyster card.

Yes, this. You won't want to walk into central London from Barking - and zero chance of hitching I reckon! You can, of course, mix and match buses and tubes.

contactless card as above; was in London 2 weeks ago, just one of the many trips we took would have cost £12.50 each if we'd bought tickets, yet using the oyster system and a NFC enabled debit card, our total bill for 3 days was £12 each.

BTW, Your daughter travels for free on all of the London Transport systems trains and buses.

Use contactless card if you have one, i do not know where you are travelling from, but if you are from abroad ensure your bank does not block it.

As you said use the Uber app for free first travel, also use the uber eats app for free food for the first time. Get your wife to install the app too so she can get free travel for another journey and pay anything extra and again install the uber eats app on her phone for a free small meal.

Travel after peak time i think 9.30 (you may want to check). Travelling with a little one is exhausting trust me i know. But there is plenty to do and see just have a rest here and there.

Don't forget you can now travel on 2 buses and not get charged for the second one as long as it's within the hour.

Make a journey using pay as you go (contactless or Oyster) on a bus or tram, and you can now make a second bus or tram journey for free within one hour of touching in on the first bus or tram.

You must touch in using the same card on the second bus or tram. The free fare will then be applied automatically.

Adding to above comments travel between 9:30 and 4 pm also after 7 pm weekdays for cheaper fares and anytime weekends. Install O2 priority app for £1 lunch on Monday and free coffee on Tuesday.

Thanks a lot for all the answers. I hope our contactless VISAs will be accepted (will check if there is way to validate them online on https://tfl.gov.uk/). Will use uber from/to Stansted airport and will check what you mean about these promotional meals You are great, thanks again!
