Have you tried priceline.com? There are a few posts on here about it, never used it myself but seems to be pretty good

Not everything that is written on the review sites is correct. Last year I looked at a couple, some of the reviews for hotels I had stayed in were way off the mark, the people who had written them obviously stayed in a different hotel from the one I had been in. I work in the travel industry and can be quite fussy about which hotels I stay in but I have now given up on these review sites.

Do you have a budget in mind for the hotel?

im really looking to pay £500 max for 5 nights inc taxes id thought id get a decent central room for £100 per night :?:?:?

Decent hotels in New York do tend to be a bit more expensive than that I'm afraid. For that amount you will get a 2 star and reasonable 3 star hotels. I've had a quick look at a couple of sites and haven't come up with anything decent for around the £500 mark

Take a look at the posts on here regarding priceline.com, some people have managed to get hotels in the States for great prices

You are welcome, happy to help when I can.

There are people on here who have had really nice hotels for great prices from priceline, no harm in checking it out. There is a good post that give you loads of information about how to use it etc

Try using www.hotwire.com if you're a bit worried about booking with priceline.
priceline is a little bit cheaper normally than hotwire - which is cheaper than hotels.com. As with priceline you don't know the name of the hotel until you pay BUT you can see all the amenities it has to offer.
HOWEVER by using betterbidding.com/ you might even be able to narrow it down to just ONE hotel.
Loads of tips & tricks to get a really good deal.

We always use Priceline or Hotwire & have always had wonderful deals, often ending up in 4 or 5* when we've asked for 3*.. Never had a bad hotel yet - & we've used quite a bit. It'll happen one day i'm sure but for the massive savings we've made I won't be complaining too much.

Just booked a hotel near New Orleans airport for bids of just $36 on priceline - can't book same hotel for under $89. We've stayed there a few times now & are more than happy with location & hotel. It's just a 3* but rooms are enormous & it's pretty luxurious - far better than many of our 4*. That goes for many 3* in the US.

Friends of ours from US came over here having paid extra for 4-5* hotels - they were appalled & so were we at the cupboards they were put into + the service was appalling here. At one 5* hotel in London the box they were put into had the heating on full blast & window couldn't be opened, they were told to leave if they didn't like it - at 11pm! They eventually got moved but when we called at the hotel for them the next day we were told they'd left. After 30mins & much persistance from us (they were on a tour so wouldn't have left) they eventually found them. Thank goodness we took the cheaper option & stayed in a Travelodge - rooms 4 times the size and less than a quarter the price!
