Check in

Sorry if this sounds dumb , im flying with northwest airlines and on the website it says You may check in for your flight between 24 hours and 60 minutes prior to departure time.

So if my flight is at 8am but i check in online at say 4am and dont get to the airport till 7.30am would this be ok , where would i go..

soz if it sounds dumb , as i dont have a clue as the person i normally go with sorts it all out , this time im sorting it all out.

Need to tell the Chauffeur what time to pick me up at but would like as much of a lay in bed as possible lol

also would be great if anyone knows any good companies which u can hire a car with chauffeur , yes it maybe a bit much but i really dont like public transport and i cant be bothered with messing around

Does it say check-in online? When i flew virgin to the states we could check in the night before in person then go to a hotel so didn't have to get up so early

Also you will need more than 30 mins to go through security etc

Well my tickets were issued by e-ticket through Expedia.com , so i have no clue , i went on to northwest airlines website and put my ticket number in to the check in which would do as i have a week to go yet and it says to early to check in , so i presume it may work.

If i do manage to check in online , how much time before my flight should i give , i was thinking 30mins to an hour?

what airport? I would also call the airline to confirm these details too

You will definately need more than 30 minutes when departing from any international airport, I'd say an hour minimum. You need to drop your bags off, faff around finding where you need to go, go through security (can be half hour queues just for that), then there can be a 15+ minute walk to the departure gate.
Think about a taxi, you can normally get special airport taxi companies who know exactly where to go, where to drop you off and all that kind of thing.

Thanks for both of your replies , its Heathrow Aiport.

Good idea about Taxi , im just looking online now , filled some forms in to get a few quotes to see how much it will be ...as long as they are not those normal horrid cabs then it should be ok.

Most seem to let you pick different cars which is good , suppose it dont really matter as long as it gets me there , but i thought i would treat myself lol.

I would definately be there 1 hr before you never kow what could happen and you hav to go to the bag drop, queues, etc, be safe allow plenty of time

International flight I presume to the States?

You gotta be there at least 2 hours before (i'd say 3 to be safe... would you rather have an extra hour in bed and risk missing your flight?!) . They start boarding the planes about an hour beforehand, so if you're not checked in by 6.30 at the latest I'd say you're asking for trouble.
