Cheesed off at those free sims with £10 credit you get FORCED to buy when purchasing a phone....

Found 3rd Dec 2009
So the £10 credit is never on these sims and i emailed vodafone who replied and said you have to top up the sim first to active it.

I think personally this is a scandal.

Just plane and simple out of order.

Sim free is usually £100+ more than a phone with branding on and sim free doesnt mean you dont get no sim it means its not branded with network logos and software.

Sorry?

the terms and conditions say you will get £10 credit on the sim 3 days after purchase.

Now im told i have to top up £10 to get £10 free credit (NOT in terms and condtions)

So you think i should just live with that?

sometimes i wonder why i bother on here, too many people are not keen on challenging any retailer who screws up. And tells the buyer to get on with it and live with it. Yet if it was the other way around.........?

i always haggle the shop not to charge me for the 10 quid top up lol

Pretty much all phones in the UK are subsidised - the network gives you a £200 phone locked to their network for £100, hoping you will stick with them. To stop box breaking, they often make you buy a top-up with the phone that will further encourage you to stay with the network but that will eat into a box-breakers margin.

If you think this is "underhand" and a "scandal" then don't take advantage of subsidised phones, and buy a £200 phone SIM free for £200, but don't complain.

Phones are supringly cheap in the UK, deal with it.

I dont think J4GG4 is complaining about the £10 mandatory top up,it's about paying the £10 for the top up,then being told you need to top it up again before the mandatory top up can be applied!

I think maybe the store has made a mistake as that doesn't sound right at all

gotta agree think its a rip off i bought a phone a cpl months ago the £10 sim is still in the box

I bought a phone from carphone warehouse it came UNBRANDED with no network branding software on it although the advert on the site said vodafone. It was also unlocked. Therefore it technically is a SIM FREE phone.

So how differently should i buy this phone 'sim free'? because they only sell them with a sim card on the big phone sites.

Ok it says £10 toptup included, you dont get a topup you get a sim card. Now the topup aint even on the sim card you have to topup £10 to get the £10 which defeats the object in the first place. And it doesnt say that in the terms therefore is that not a scandal????
