Have you tried the Little Workmates series? ladybird.co.uk/gro…tml - not so good for adults, but my daughter loved them

Anything by Julia Donaldson is good - Room on the Broom and the Snail and the Whale are very good

& the classic Ladybird fairy stories always go down well - Cinderella, Jack & the beanstalk etc

EDIT - forgot the Little Princess library - v funny - available at red house books £8.99

    excellent thankyou very much

does your library offer a free ordering service for kiddies books?

mine does, i find good book/author and oder it on the internet and i can collect it within a week.

I like to do this as it feels like shopping , but is free. my 7 year old can sometimes get a bit funny about returning the books though. gets quite upset.

The Large Family are really lovely stories and they are £4.99 for five at The Book People at the moment.

Dr Zeuss books are classic. I bought them for my son when he was 4 as hubby said they were great. I am not a huge fan but he is now 8 and my daughter is 9 and they still love them.

does she like story or information books?

do you go to the library? ours does a storytime session and then we can borrow the books after.

and whilst im thinking about it i remember some books i had when i was a kid and loved them, there was a family of bears, each bear was a different colour and a spotty dog (dalmatian?) was always included does anyone know what these books are called please?

long shot in the dark i guess lol

My absolute favourite children's book, 'Love You Forever' by Robert Munsch.

    I still love it!

If she likes The Gruffalo then she'll love Room on the Broom as mentioned above by the same people, we've had it for a couple of years now and it is still the favourite book of my 7 & 3 yr old daughters (and Mummy & Daddy too), the rhymes are fantastic and we get them to join in by shouting the "and woosh it was gone" each time, any by these two are fab so look them up.

each peach, pear plum is very good

elmer seems to be popular too

is charlie and lola too old for her?

    winnie the witch series?

nick sharratt is a good author for 4 year olds. my daughter loves octopus socktopus and elephant wellyphant.

is she a young 4 or is she in reception?

she is the same age as my girl then. although she likes books she is not a bookworm.

my 7 yr old boy is, he gets attached to his books. its lovely to read to him, he listens and appreciates his bedtime story. we are just starting roald dahl.

michael rosen is the children's writer who is often on the wright stuff. have you ever seen him?

this is his website and does a lot for 4 - 7 year olds.
