Childrens halloween costumes should obviously have same safety standards as childrens' clothes

A shocking video shows how quickly Halloween costumes can set on fire as families are reminded of the dangers.

Children’s fancy dress costumes are classed as toys and are not subject to the same safety criteria as regular clothes.

To highlight the flammability, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has released footage showing how quickly the costumes set alight - and is urging people to use battery powered candles inside pumpkins to reduce the risk.

Buy your kids pyjamas instead my son has spiderman ones that look like the suit.

It amazes me how little people pay attention to things just read the label and stick to cotton, yeah that burns too but at least it doesn't adhire to skin like napalm.

Every year we are told this and every year nothing is done about it last year a petition went into the thousands again nothing done. Money over safety every time until supermarkets are told they can't do it anymore they will continue selling cheaply made costumes

Only just posted the same! Sorry Dave, I didn't see your thread!

    Sickening, selfish greed.

Hope that their are no tragedies this halloween. Must be one of the most painful gruesome ways to suffer when they simply melt and burn. If anyone has seen how plastic burns, it tends to drip, the drip carries on burning like an oil latern. I have a feeling that the difference in cost to make them safe would be pence rather than pounds, still I'd rather pay a little more for something that is reassuringly safe that risk my kids burning to death.

100% I bet the difference is only pence not pounds for some reason they class them as a toy dress up instead of clothes which have stricter rules. If what I read last year is correct
