    Childs Bike

Hi, just wondered if anyone had seen any good deals on kids bikes recently.

I'm not looking for a character bike but a good sturdy bike, preferably aluminium with gears.

My son will be 6 in a fortnight and is around average height.

Even if it's not on offer but you know of a good bike then please let me know.

    Thanks.

I'm sure I saw bikes on offer at Tesco this week - unsure what ones as I wasn't really looking that much - but may be worth a look or even ringing up and asking

if he will be 6 and is average height he will need a 16" wheel size. You will be hard pushed to find an aluminium frame 16" bike. Gears will be ok but they will maily be shift grip (where the right hand twists the grip forward and back), so if he has weaker hands it might be to difficult for him to do. Just something to consider. Hope it helps.

Also, get a traditional frame bike (like a bmx style) as rear suspension on a 16" is cool, yet pointless and a gimmick. 16" will last him until about 8yrs.

Thanks for that, will ask my mum to have a look as she lives near one.

The bike I like is £275 which is way too much for a 6yo. Wouldn't it be fantastic if I could find it in tesco? lol

Many thanks for the reply, the gears is mainly just to get him used to them but we do also live ontop of a hill so could be handy.

Glad you mentioned about 16 inch wheels as I was looking at a 20inch wheel and thinking to myself how can it be suitable for a 5 year old as well as 10 because that is a fair jump in height.

I know the handlebars etc can be adjusted but still....

Weird though that the smallest people cant get light bikes, maybe it's because they know mugs like me are the ones left to carry them lol.

30% off certain kids bikes at halfords , if thats any help

Thank you, just had a wee look there and there are a few he would love (and I know that should be what's important) but not quite what I'm looking for.

Found a 16inch that looks quite good but with no gears but maybe I am as well just waiting till he's that bit stonger to introduce gears.
