Me too, would be good to get some recommendations
If you want to benefit from a reduction in your house insurance then contact your insurer for advice before purchasing. If you declare the property as being alarmed and it’s not considered compliant then you could find you get nothing in the event of a break in.
I ordered something like that several years ago (2015) :aliexpress.com/ite…_52

That specific model uses codes, rather than clear text messages (not for everyday users). It is still active, but sometimes could be a hit and miss. They are not too bad for the price.
There are many other models on the market, for example like this: aliexpress.com/ite…_52
with Wifi and RFID

I've been looking at the first one you have mentioned but I am tempted to go with one with an app rather than a phone call/text, do you regularly get false alarms or is it not too bad?
Saw that and thought bit far to hear one going off?
Indeed, the first example doesn't have any app. I haven't tested the second example, but I think I'm going to buy one as it has Wifi and it can be implemented into a redundant system.

With something as in the second example or similar + newer sensors (which I learnt that they are much power efficient than the old ones), then you're going to have GSM alarms+Wifi Alarms. In parallel you can connect those sensors to a Sonoff bridge and have a second route.

To hear the alarm ? you can connect an external or a wireless alarm.
My cousin bought one and ever since then he says he's seen Chinese men sitting in a car outside his house overnight.

a Keiru kind of alarm; it should be fine. I recommend changing the PSU to something better, from an old box, router, etc.
