inb4 people say they spend £1000's and people say its wasted.

there was a thread like this last Christmas and posters were getting slated for the amounts they spent on their children - which to me was bang out of order - as nobodys business how much they spend

I spend a lot on my son - he is my only one, I dont get into any sort of debt either for it but not gonna say how much.

    £0 as I don't have kids

at least £2000 on each, i have 4

Its not about the money really OP, its about the thought that goes into the present I think. Obviously children like the most expensive things, and if people can afford it why not buy them what they want. BUT I reckon most people would prefer a well thought out gift rather than say a gift card with lots of money on it.

precisely why I suspect very few serious answers will be seen in this thread-amazing how many people know best when it comes to other peoples kids!

I think most people's problem is that they spend what they don't have, spend £100,000 if your a millionaire or £10 if your poor. As i said earlier its about the day with family, and the effort and time that goes into a present or presents.

It's those who spend £1000 when they can't afford it and end up in debt that slightly annoy me. Leaving there kids without in the long term because they are paying back loans for christmas presents that end up in a cupboard.

Cannot agree more, my parents used to spent £1000+ and me each year and they didn't have it, and it the long term i didn't get all my essentials for school as we had next to no money

I suppose its different when your kids still believe in santa , my daughter is 10 and borderline with her wether she still believes !! but my son is 6 and deffo still believes so is so much easier to wrap a load of pressies up and pretend there from father xmas

I have 3, ages 9, 6 and 3 (well she'll be 4 by christmas) and they have about £50, £60 each on them, one main pressie and quite a lot of extra bits.
If people want to spend loads thats up to them, I can't afford it so I don't, and I dont want my kids expecting hugely expensive things, just to appreciate what they do get.
By not bowing to peer pressure I don't think I've ever got them a gift they didn't like, or never played with, so I've never felt I've wasted money.
Getting into debt at Christmas is just silly imo.

I have no money yet I take out credit cards and max them out just so my child can have some crap toy.

Christmas for some people is waaaay too much. People buy for the sake of it, just seems silly

We have spent about £100 on our 7 year old -but his birthday is very early January, so we spend about the same again for that. But he gets a LOT of that £200 ... we're very good shoppers.

Our toddler gets about £50ish spent ... but again, he gets a lot for it as we find a lot of bargains and shop throughout the year.

We've pretty much finished our Xmas shopping for the kids already :-)

Perhaps the question should be what percentage of monthly income is spent on kids at Christmas, then at least It's relative and people won't get bogged down in actual figures

i usually spend around £400 on each

When our 2 were small you could fill their stockings for around £30.00.With lots of small things. Then PS 1 and PS2 ect games costing £30.00 or more was costing way to much. Now they are 18&15 and last year 18 year old got a new mobile bit pricy but we knew it would be the last 1 we would buy and 15 year old a new digital camera that she wanted. Also little nic kacks, smellies ect that they had mentionded during the year.I still put up a stocking fill it with a tangerine,a banana and nuts.We also do the shoe box appeal where you fill a shoe box to go to poorer countries and they go to poor children. They have good food know they are loved and to me thats the most important thing. They also have to leave a glass of milk, sherry, mince pie for santa and a carrot for Rudolf.Dad sips the milk, takes a bite out of the carrot (hates that bit) I sips the sherry, take a bite out of the mince pie.Christmas eve they want a story told not 18 year old now but 15 year old.Mum its a traditon now so we have to do it.On Christmas Day whoever is up the 1st shouts He's been,He's been.So 1 up all up.So can I be the 1st to wish you all a Happy and Merry Christmas.lol.pmsl It must have took 30 mins to type this.lol

Not that much as I think it's more important to spend it on their birthday than xmas.

Sometimes spent close to £200 on them each, last Xmas, being a single parent I spent about £125 or so on the 2 older ones and a fair bit less on the baby as he was only a couple mths old.I'm going be spending less this year not so much due to money but I no space for lots more new toys.

i buy all the time for my kids, nearly every time i go shopping! However i look at the sale section first got LO 2 tops the other day for £1.25 each, bought her puppy in my pocket hospital from Home bargains £10 (£20) in argos. Max i spend is about £100 but makee sure they get what they ask for and search for hours for a bargain.
