Royal mail will be taking on thousands. If you have a data entry centre near you they will be looking to recruit between 200-300 people I think it is roughly.

I'm looking for job in Coventry

i want to be the fat guy in the Grotto handing out poundshop jigsaws & crayon sets when the parents have paid a fiver,

let me know when that vacancy comes up

Think it is laughable that Tesco are taking on staff days after they make their nightshift staff redundant because they can't offer any other jobs!!

You want children to sit on your lap... Won't judge

I worked for Royal Mail sorting office in Royal Mail 2 years ago over the Christmas in the Warrington sorting office. Was really simple work. Supervisors were decent. Even offered me a few extra months work after Christmas. 8 hours a day Monday to Friday. Also plenty of overtime was available.

99% of the work was just grabbing a Yorkie (not the chocolate bar) bringing it over to some sacks with postcodes on. Grab a parcel out of the Yorkie and place in the correct postcode bag. Rinse and repeat.

    Thanks, really appreciate this thread

I have no idea what a Yorkie is other than a chocolate bar or small dog X) lol. At first I thought "clever dog sorting post out.." then it turned into some sort of animal abuse! Still, at least it gets a nice shower before the ordeal starts over haha

I hope this is not what you meant coz I still have no clue what a Yorkie is!

Haha trust me a lot of people were confused when told to go and grab a yorkie. It's just trolly with a red sack inside.

PMP Agency is also taking on a good amount of people around the UK for Christmas work. However, after reading some reviews about them is off-putting. Most all negative reviews I have read about them is about cancelled shifts.

I'm 17, is there a solid chance that one of these guys will take me on? Too many employers pushing and shoving me around sadly

Just apply and see what comes up. It's always worth trying than not. A good first impression helps immeasurably. Always wear a suit, tie and leather shoes to an interview - it's better to overdress than under dress. Good luck.

Naked interviews never end up in getting the job, just arrested.

    It was.

Overdressing can be an issue too.

Have a look at the Royal Mail. See if there is Christmas working going on at your local sorting center. If you are allowed to work in the UK then they should take you on for Christmas. I worked for my local Royal Mail center at Christmas 2 years ago. After the Christmas work was done. They brought me back in 2 months later. It was zero hour contracts but I was pretty much guaranteed 2 or 3 shifts a week.

even if I'm 17? I've got a fairly big depot or whatever down the road, didn't know they'd take me

Game has quite a few around the country, they are looking for a temp in Christmas in Oxford.

I got rejected because I'm not 18 yet

I don't fancy Subway as I'm practically useless when it comes to actually making things :x I do prefer the mail sorting thing or some sort of administration job, I'll try applying at the local Royal Mail

You shouldn't have a problem for most shops and restaurant jobs. In fact they will love you because they can pay you a significantly lower wage as allowed by the government's ageist minimum wage laws despite you doing the exact same job as an older person.

Don't ever work for poundland, they hired 8 of us for a new store, made us work our ass off to build the shelves, stock and launch the store then fired us all. They're a joke of a company.

Argos are **** employers. Will work you to the bone, treat you like crap, mess up your pay every week and boot you out as soon as the busy period is over. Also send you home at 2am (half night) if the work gets done quickly, even if you have no transport.

thanks for the heads up on the jobs

    Are these all minimum wage?

I would imagine so. There will be so many applicants that they don't need to offer a living wage.

    Hahahahahaha, I hear you there?.

But it still sounds a bit wrong though ..... lol.

National Rail offers to pay a young person £10,000 a year to travel around UK Link

Anyone aged between 16 and 25-years-old is able to apply, as well as full-time mature students aged 25 and over. Applicants are required to send a video of a recent trip to prove they are perfect for the role.
