i just bought one, noticed a couple of little problems one is when i brake i hear a sort of hissing noice its very quiet but i can hear it.
Also getting to 60 takes ages, i havent worked it out yet but it seems to take about 13 seconds is this normal for a turbo charged 1.9 car?
    any advice is greatly appreciated

I have one - nice car

However.....................look at your rev counter - is it going above 3000rpm at all? If not, the engine is on 'limp home' mode..... it could however just be that it is a heavy car, and it will take that time, as it is a diesel!

    How old is it?

A '96 model takes 15.5 secs, remember that it weighs a ton or two!!!

It's only a 90bhp engine, so it was never going to be quick in a car that size. Should have opted for the 2.0 HDI if you wanted it a bit nippier.

forgive me but are you serious about a limp home mode?

totally serious - I know it does it on the HDi engines, but not sure on the older ones. It won't rev over 3000 to protect the engine. I found this out as a mate had a peugeot diesel and the intercooler went, and the limp home mode kicked in.

They are as slow as ****. The turbo will cut in around 1700 revs. The most worrying thing is the noise from the brakes. May be a leaking servo, in which case the travel on the pedal will get longer, and then NO BRAKES !! Get it checked out. Get ready for a world of problems with these cars. They have Italian wiring systems. That's all I'm saying.

MOT it NOW, that way you'll have 8 weeks to save up for repairs. I'd really get them brakes checked though. May be a pipe leak, or worse, a master/slave cylinder.

Bear in mind just because it's a 1.9 turbo diesel doesn't really mean much as there could be any size of turbo bolted on there. The basic VAG 1.9TD engine develops just 90bhp whereas their top version of this engine (still a 1.9 turbo) develops 60% more bhp at 150 thanks to a larger turbo/intercooler. Just worth bearing in mind when considering any future cars as it's not uncommon for many of the diesel engines to have the same engine size but different power outputs.
