    howdy folks...

my steam generator iron is very battered...i cant get all the black stuff off it using the cleaning wipes etc. tried loads and they do diddly squit. iron needs a good clean but i jus dunno how... also spitting out yucky water when u initially use it.... i assume because its mucky... am thinkin of buying a new one but this was £230 when i got it and is still one of the better ones...so would prefer to know how to clean it....

A way to get the black off is to iron on brown paper, or if youi have an old tea towel use that. The high heat should melt if and it SHOULD stick to the paper/towel. It worked for me.
Maybe try bicarb of soda in the water.

    Good luck!

    £230?

I don't think that is a good idea.
Irons tend to have a Teflon like coating on them to make ironing easier and the scouring pad will take that coating off.
    I wouldn't use one.
