Cleartype & Firefox (make text look as smooth as IE7) in XP

For a long time on my PC I wondered why IE7 managed to get text on pages to render so nicely compared to Firefox, and in fact that was the reason some people told me they would stick to IE.
Turns out IE7 turns on Cleartype (http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/Step1.aspx) as standard, ignoring your system wide setting. I forgot to enable Cleartype but now that I have Firefox also renders pages like a beauty!
Try it yourself and see the difference it makes!

Yep only XP (I think it is turned on as standard in Vista) - thanks for the reminder csiman.
Screenshots won't show the full extent of the changes, as they are only shown in the Display level (just before it is displayed on the screen). Give it a try and see the difference it makes, you can always turn it off if you do not like it. Supposedly it makes reading text 5% faster on average.
